Joint Solution for Newspaper and Magazine Publishers
07/14/1999
Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG and SAP AG intensify cooperation
Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG and SAP AG have agreed to
extend their cooperation in the media market. A cooperation
agreement with global objectives has now been signed between the
two companies.
The purpose of the cooperation on the newspaper and magazine
market is to develop and market an integrated, comprehensive
solution which consists of commercial components from SAP AG and of
technical modules which are to be developed by Heidelberger
Druckmaschinen AG. This thereby extends cooperation between the two
companies to well beyond the content management systems originally
envisaged and comprises all core business processes from the
content production of print media, through prepress and press, to
product sales, advertising and dispatch. SAP administrative systems
in the fields of accounting, logistics and personnel management are
also an integral part of the solution. For the first time ever,
this will allow full support for all key commercial and technical
processes in publishing houses.
The MOM (Media Object Manager) content management system
which has been planned jointly between the two companies has since
aroused considerable interest well beyond the media industry. It is
also seen as particularly important for corporate publishing and
thereby goes far beyond the target market originally intended.
Further development will therefore be conducted by SAP AG in close
cooperation with Heidelberg. The jointly projected media production
management system will be developed by Heidelberg with focus on
print media and internet.
In the pre-media sector, i.e. planning, editorial and
advertising systems, Heidelberg's Linopress System provides a
Windows NT-based solution which is already in productive use at
shared customers.
Through this cooperation agreement, both partners will be
looking to quickly implement highly integrated and modular
solutions.
Publishing houses can therefore count on coordinated,
future-oriented products to support them in every aspect of their
operations from sales and content production to printing and
mailroom operations. SAP and Heidelberg are convinced that
combining their core competences will bring considerable additional
benefits to their customers in the changeover to industrial media
production based on standardized enterprise resource planning
systems.
