Prinect Inspection Control ensures sheet monitoring at full
production capacity, cutting waste and post-processing costs
This year, Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) will
be launching a measuring device for reliable and efficient sheet
inspection for their large-format Speedmaster
XL 105 and Speedmaster CD 102 presses. Prinect Inspection
Control is aimed mainly at packaging printers in the pharmaceutical
and brand manu- facturing sectors, label printers and print shops
specializing in producing security documents. Prinect Inspection
Control uses two high-resolution RGB cameras to detect the tiny
printing errors, such as hickeys, missing print, striping, and
scratches.
Color deviations, smudging, and scumming can also be detected
and remedied quickly and reliably during production and the new
device detects paper errors, too. High waste and post-processing
costs or rejection of the entire run by the customer can therefore
be avoided.
Prinect Inspection Control is fully integrated in the coating
unit of Speedmaster presses and positioned so closely to the sheet
travel that inspection is possible right up to the rear edge of the
sheet without any loss in quality. In addition, the vibration-free
design of the unit ensures excellent inspection quality. The 0.25 x
0.25 millimeter (0.0098 x 0.0098 inch) resolu- tion results in a
sensitivity to object defects that is four times higher - twice as
high in both sheet length and sheet width - than in other systems.
"Prinect Inspection Control meets the demand from large
numbers of print shops to ensure consistently high-end quality for
their products and com- plete monitoring and documentation of the
entire run without compromising on productivity. At the same time,
the sheet inspection system enhances the color measurement systems
from Heidelberg as it also reliably detects print and paper
errors," says Dr. Jürgen Rautert, Member of the
Management Board, responsible for Engineering and Manufacturing at
Heidelberg.
The system is in the pre-series phase and is due to be rolled
out at the end of the year for new presses and as a retrofit for
existing Speedmaster
XL 105 and Speedmaster CD 102 presses. Further information on
the op- portunities offered by Prinect Inspection Control is
available from Heidelberg customer advisors.
