Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) is presenting open
JDF-based links from management information systems (MIS) to its
Prinect workflow at Print 05, which takes place from September 9 to
15 in Chicago.
For some time, Prinect has been supporting the exchange
of data between the production workflow and various management
information systems in numerous customer installations. Heidelberg
has optimized this integration process even further by deploying
open JDF interfaces based on CIP 4 requirements.
"By connecting Prinect to a large number of management
information systems, Heidelberg is demonstrating the system
openness of its JDF-based Prinect workflow. This means more options
for customers in selecting appropriate management workflows,
greater transparency in their processes and, ultimately, lower
costs thanks to greater automation," says Jörg Bauer,
Vice President of Prinect Product Management at Heidelberg,
explaining the benefits of the interfaces. "The wide variety
of management information systems already integrated in Prinect
just one year since JDF 1.2 became available also highlights how
JDF has established itself as the industry standard," Bauer
continues.
Faster job preparation, optimal job tracking, enhanced cost
transparency
Linking a management information system to the Prinect
Printready System prepress workflow enables jobs to be transferred
automatically from the management workflow to the production
workflow and simplifies the preconfigured impositioning process.
The job data from the management information system is fed
along with ink presetting data via Prinect Data Control into the
Prinect CP 2000 Center and, as a result, directly into the press.
Jobs can therefore be prepared faster for printing. The data
collated in the production process is fed as JMF messages (Job
Messaging Format) back to the management information system,
therefore allowing precise actual costing of each individual print
job and maximum transparency in the production process.
MIS Prinect linkups at Print 05
At the Heidelberg booth, interested parties can find out
about JDF integration of Prinect Prinance into the production
workflow within Prinect Management Solutions. Further links to the
Prinect workflow will be on show at the trade show booths of MIS
providers Hiflex, Prism, and EFI.
Heidelberg is also promoting the open Prinect system
architecture by taking part in the CIP4 trails, virtual tours that
will be taking place during Print 05. These have been initiated by
the CIP 4 Organisation and will show JDF being exchanged between
several makes of product in various production scenarios. Visitors
will also see how JDF is used to optimize workflow processes.
