Prinect Web Center is comprehensive, JDF-compliant package for
M-600 and Sunday presses
Innovations cut makeready time and waste, simplify operation,
extend management tools
Heidelberg has added new workflow tools for web offset
production and enhanced existing features to create the Prinect Web
Center. The comprehensive, JDF-compliant system will control a new
M-600 D press system in live production at drupa. New features
include an exclusive module to streamline the makeready process.
"A lot of people at drupa will be talking about the
potential of automated controls and complete workflow
integration," explains Heidelberg Web Systems president Werner
Albrecht. "We have that potential available right now in an
open system that web printers can easily customize for their
specific applications and equipment lineups." Albrecht noted
that all Prinect Web Center functions are currently running at
various sites in Europe and the U.S.
The Prinect Web Center reduces waste and operator effort
through automation, integration and unique data processing
capabilities. Individual modules calculate and convert digital
information from prepress, job storage and closed-loop systems.
They also preset and adjust press, folder and auxiliary functions,
link production processes and report performance data - all
automatically. The common platform for Heidelberg Sunday and M-600
web presses can integrate prepress, postpress and auxiliary systems
from leading suppliers.
A new Omni Makeready feature within the Prinect Web Center
creates a specialized link with closed-loop controls for color,
register and cutoff. Unique Heidelberg software algorithms
instantly calculate and adjust target density, ink film thickness
and other job change variables and send the information to the
press controls to accelerate start-ups and reduce makeready as well
as running waste.
Heidelberg has also added new management tools to the Prinect
Web Center package. The Omni Reporting module captures and reports
extensive performance data in real time or on a cumulative basis.
Information ranging from speed, makeready time, event
categorization, job duration and consumable consumption to splices
and web breaks can be accessed on site or remotely. Omni Link
communicates this performance data directly to a management
information network. This provides real time remote access for
management functions such as estimating, billing, job planning and
purchasing.
Additional Prinect Web Center modules include the Omnicon
press control system, Omni Color color controls, a Prepress
Interface and Omni Presetting.
Omnicon and Omni Color controls allow operators to retrieve
digital files, monitor presets and production data, program and
initiate automated sequences, and remotely control ink, water, and
motorized press and folder functions. Omni Color includes built-in
learning algorithms to continuously increase preset accuracy.
The Heidelberg Prepress Interface accepts data from digital
prepress systems, converts area coverage values for individual ink
zones, and sends the calculations directly to the Omni Color
console for automated presetting of ink keys. One common Prepress
Interface can serve multiple Heidelberg web and sheetfed presses.
Omni Presetting complements the Prepress Interface, allowing
operators to initiate automatic presets based on standard job
formats and stored data or to easily create new parameters. These
presetting functions reside on a standard PC within the network,
allowing off-line job preparation prior to the run.
