PDF 1.4 and TIFF-B export create new opportunities
Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) has announced a
new version of the Delta Technology workflow software at IPEX.
Version 7.5 supports PDF 1.4, has an optional 1-bit TIFF-B export
function and is due to be launched on the market in the summer. In
launching the new Delta version 7.5, the solution provider for the
print and media industry is bringing its ROOM workflow (Rip Once
Output Many) tool in line with the latest Adobe PDF technology.
With around 8000 versions installed, Delta Technology is one of the
most widespread workflow modules in the industry.
Full PDF 1.4 support opens up a wealth of new opportunities,
such as transparencies in PDF formatdata. The new optional function
for exporting 1-bit TIFF data means that Delta list functionality
can also be used for output devices that are not directly
controlled by Delta. Delta Technology is part of the all-embracing
Prinect solution. Prinect from Heidelberg brings together workflow
components that communicate via open formats and interfaces such as
PPF and (in future) JDF and allows "networked print
production". "Management", "prepress",
"press" and "postpress" processes which were
isolated in the past will now be able to exchange digital
information, thereby ensuring process reliability, flexibility and
transparency in the printshop. What's more, the fact that
entries do not need to be duplicated means that valuable time can
be saved and used for additional production instead.
New screens for smooth skin
Besides well-known screening processes such as HQS
(High-Quality Screening), I.S. (Irrational Screening) and Diamond
Screening, Delta 7.5 now also has the option of the new MegaDot
Plus screening process which has already been available for
MetaDimension for around a year. This line screen has been
specially developed for extremely smooth skin tones without rosette
structures. The advantages of MegaDot Plus are that it does not
place high demands on the printing process, calculations can be
performed directly in the software without need for additional
hardware, and it can therefore be used at any time. Up till now it
has been possible to achieve very smooth skin tones only by using
frequency-modulated screens which are much harder to handle during
printing.
The Delta Trapper has also been extended. It is the only
trapping tool that can calculate the trapping for each individual
separation in outstanding quality and at high speed. Delta 7.5 for
Windows NT and 2000 will be launched on the market at the start of
the third quarter.
