The new Heidelberg Jetbase Version 3.1
With the recently-released Jetbase Version 3.1,
Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) has once again extended
its range of online services and workflows. Printshops and prepress
businesses now have even more options for making their services
available online. Jetbase Version 3.1 also enables them to react
more quickly and to communicate and produce more flexibly without
error.
In contrast to products which merely let the customer
download low-resolution image layout files locally or order data
online, Jetbase users can offer their customers and partners the
option of downloading anything they like - including
high-resolution images and documents. It doesn't matter whether
this involves online or archived data. If archived data is required
(e.g. "the document from the last edition" or even
complete archived jobs), Jetbase's automatic features prepare
this data without any need for human input and transfer it to the
customer. This means that the service can be available 24/7.
Depending on the nature of the relationship with the
customer, online access rights can be granted to both customer
libraries and live production jobs - e.g. for PDF proofing. This
means that customers', agencies' and partners' desktops
can all be integrated easily into the internal production workflow.
For the first time, Jetbase Version 3.1 allows customers to
look after their own libraries. They can either upload files online
into these libraries and assign key words themselves, or transfer
files from completed production jobs (located on the Jetbase
provider's server) into appropriate libraries.
A further highlight of the new Jetbase version is the job
interface to the upcoming Prinergy Version 2.0. The interface
provides a means of "setting up" Prinergy when a
production job is created in Jetbase, i.e. a Prinergy job with a
ready-assigned, automatic process plan can be generated at the same
time. This means that Prinergy no longer needs to be operated from
the moment the production job is opened in the preparation stage
right up until the Prinergy process plan output is ready (e.g. PDF
pages proofed and ready for impositioning).
Jetbase Version 3.1 demonstrates Heidelberg's continued
commitment to linking Internet services and production workflows to
produce an efficient, end-to-end process for both customers and
graphical media providers.
In addition to enhanced Internet service options and workflow
automation, the new Jetbase version offers yet another highlight -
the implementation of end-to-end commercial production management
based on the JDF standard, covering everything from the initial
idea to delivery. Heidelberg introduced this concept for the first
time at drupa 2000.
