Prinergy workflow management system Version 2.0 - New functions
and new products
More than 200 businesses in the graphic arts industry are
already using the Prinergy workflow management solution from
Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) to deliver a
significant boost in prepress productivity. Heidelberg will be
using drupa 2000 to present the new Prinergy version 2.0 which will
be marketed under the name "Prinergy Connect". Version
2.0 incorporates a whole raft of customer "wants" in the
form of new features and optimizations. Visitors will also be able
to see "Prinergy Direct", the Prinergy entry-level
solution for direct output on imposed PDF and PostScript sheets.
"Prinergy Powerpack" will also be on display. This is the
first PDF workflow management solution for packaging printers which
ensures reliable and automatic processing of all packaging jobs
(folding boxes, labels, etc.).
Prinergy Connect - Open and transparent concept for users and
their customers
Prinergy Insite (Prinergy Web Client) is an important
function for reinforcing customer loyalty to a printshop or
prepress business. It can be used to access the Prinergy system via
a standard browser and the Internet. This enables external
production engineers to check that PDF pages meet the needs of the
specific job, to download these pages, to perform remote proofing
or to directly identify the job's specific location and
processing status.
A further new feature is the Jetbase interface to Prinergy.
If a job is created in Jetbase, the content management database
solution from Heidelberg, a job with the same name and file
structures is automatically generated in Prinergy. If the external
production engineer prints a ready-assembled page (in PostScript
form) from Jetbase to Prinergy into a hot folder, then automatic
processing and output of the job by Prinergy can start immediately.
This extends the prepress workflow to the customer's workplace
- a process which saves considerable time and effort.
This is also the objective of integrating the Signastation
impositioning software. Visitors to drupa will be able to
experience interactive cooperation between Signastation 6.0 and
Prinergy. Both software products can exchange job information via
job tickets, and the Signastation can now be started directly from
Prinergy. The unique CIP3 functionality for printing and finishing
by Signastation can thus be utilized to the full by Prinergy.
Additional new Prinergy functions:
Efficient handling of different versions, e.g. different
language versions of a single job.
- Export of reports from the Prinergy database for business
management evaluation in commercial systems; retrieval of
information, e.g. regarding RIP utilization and imaging
operations
- Export of information on a specific job (PDF pages, PDF
sheets, job tickets with impositioning information) as a .zip
archive from one Prinergy system and import into another Prinergy
system to allow simple exchange of jobs between different
production sites.
- Extended automation through workflow process plans which
register the data, undertake refining (conversion to PDF,
preflight check and correction, trapping, CMM) and perform
subsequent impositioning.
More data formats supported for import and output, incl.
CT/LW, PDF/X-1A and TIFF/IT for direct import and PDF and DCS 2 for
output
Prinergy Direct - The gateway to the PDF-based workflow with a
full range of upgrade options
Prinergy Direct is an entry-level solution for users wanting
to add a PDF-based workflow to their operations. The "small
version" of Prinergy adopts imposed PostScript jobs or PDF
assemblies and processes these into PDF pages which can be output
on a filmsetter or plate recorder. Prinergy Direct can also process
finished print jobs from job-ticket-based systems such as Prinergy
Connect. The print jobs are printed directly from the application
into a hot folder which is linked with a Prinergy process plan and
automatically performs all processing operations.
- Prinergy Direct performs refining (embedding of fonts,
normalization to PDF, treatment of special colors, OPI including,
conversion from RGB to CMYK) and output. The result is an
optimized PDF document which is free of errors and contains all
data which the output device requires for imaging. The imposed
print jobs can be proofed on the monitor or on plotters. The
"VPS" (Visual Proof System) software can be used for
soft proofs on the Macintosh and allows the user to view
individual separations, including verso and recto simultaneously,
even zoomed.
Prinergy Powerpack - The first PDF workflow management solution
for the packaging industry
Prinergy Powerpack was developed specifically for packaging
printers and incorporates a whole range of specific functions which
satisfy users expectations of a digital workflow system for this
particular industry. This integrated, automated solution for
prepress production of packaging jobs (folding boxes, labels, etc.)
is the first PDF workflow management system on the market.
Prinergy Powerpack can naturally also import designed
individual repeats from various applications and supports PDF and
PostScript/EPS/DCS formats. Since brilliant color quality is what
is needed in the packaging industry, new functions have been
integrated into Prinergy Powerpack, particularly as regards
trapping and Color Management.
- Improved trapping incorporating the specific requirements of
packaging printing, e.g. definition of trap corner shapes and
three-color traps
- High-quality implementation of spot colors on a proofer such
as the EPSON 9000 by supporting HiFi or Hexachrome colors in
Color Management when performing refining and proofing
operations; use of Pantone color tables in the color
database.
Prinergy Powerpack supports a Step & Repeat function which
allows users to work with Heidelberg's new Signapack software
in the production of complete forms. This variant of the famous
Signastation impositioning software was developed to ensure that
even the most difficult individual repeats could be positioned
efficiently and reliably (see separate press release). CFF2 data
generated in CAD systems for the punch form can be used to
automatically generate the impositioning sheet in Signapack and can
also be incorporated into the prepress workflow with Prinergy
Powerpack.
Image Web Client
Heidelberg will be presenting the new Version 2.0 of Prinergy
at DRUPA 2000. Version 2.0 integrates many customer requirements
into new features and optimizations. Using the new Internet-based
client, the end customer can track the production status of his
jobs in the printshop online.
Image Workflow
Heidelberg will be presenting the new Version 2.0 of Prinergy
at DRUPA 2000. Version 2.0 integrates many customer requirements
into new features and optimizations. Workflow automation has been
enhanced. The customer can now automatically search all work
stages, from data entry to the impositioned form proof, at the
click of mouse.
Image Trapping
Heidelberg will be presenting the new Version 2.0 of Prinergy
at DRUPA 2000. Version 2.0 integrates many customer requirements
into new features and optimizations. The extended Trap Editor
enables packaging printers to match traps to the punching form, to
define the trap corner shape and to perform three-color traps.
