One of the major concerns in the print media industry is to reduce throughput times and optimize the entire process from prepress to press and postpress. Printshops today find themselves in a heterogeneous environment involving a whole range of technologies and different interfaces. It is therefore important that all components involved in the production process work together effectively. In developing its Prinect solution, Heidelberg has thus focused on integrating individual components. Prinect is a modular system which embraces different components and can incorporate individual functions into a fully integrated production process. Its versatility makes Prinect ideal for customized solutions extending from analog-based configurations to complex high-end integration for industrial print businesses.

PrinectProduce - The key for comprehensive solutions
Prinect is an evolutionary concept which integrates existing and new control modules over the entire prepress-press-postpress chain. The key element in this concept is the CP 2000 Center press control system which has enabled Heidelberg to set new standards in terms of productivity and machine handling. The CP 2000 provides a platform for integration and networking operations. It is equipped with a customizable touchscreen display for centralized control of the printing press. In addition to facilitating operation, the CP 2000 Center supports numerous automated features which function as modules for open, flexible integration in the printshop. The job preparation stage, for example, allows the user to preselect all important machine settings including the job code, while 250 storage locations are available for storing production jobs.

PrinectLink - The direct link to prepress
PrinectLink from Heidelberg offers two alternative solutions for linking the prepress and press stages. CIP3 data from the digital prepress can be transferred directly to the press control system via the PrepressInterface. The PrepressInterface uses this information to calculate the preset values for the color profile of the job to be processed. It also supplies color reference values to the ImageControl quality measuring system which, in the event of subsequent measurement of the print sheet, compares these values with the values actually measured. In analog prepress operations, the Heidelberg Image Plate Reader is used for calculating the preset data. The CP 2000 Center converts the ink coverage values into setting values for the print unit ink zones. The Plate Image Reader supports all popular plate formats and is precisely tuned to the ink zone width of Heidelberg presses.

PrinectControl - Quality and print process under complete control
The PrinectControl series includes products for automatic color and register presetting. For spectrophotometric color measurement and analysis, Heidelberg can offer two systems which provide effective quality control. The Prinect ImageControl product is the only system worldwide to employ spectrophotometric measurement of the entire print image while also offering online color control. A measuring bar scans the entire printed image in minimum time. A 70 x 100 cm print sheet is broken down into more than 160,000 measuring points, each of which is compared with the relevant measuring point on the OK sheet. ImageControl analyzes both process and special colors in the image and automatically determines recommended adjustments which the printer can authorize via the CP 2000 Center. The entire print process is documented in the job log. The prepress process is accelerated, waste is further reduced and quality is ensured throughout. Reduced use of color control strips also saves printing stock.

QualityControl, on the other hand, measures the printing control strip and evaluates it using colorimetric measurement. It can measure up to eight colors in a single measuring run and can also measure sheets printed on both sides. The measured values are compared with the stored reference values. Deviations are displayed on the screen and any adjustments which are required are performed automatically after the printer has given his approval.

As the first and only inline measuring and control system for sheetfed presses, AutoRegister ensures fast, precise register measurement and fine adjustment while the press is actually running. Using Heidelberg register marks positioned along the side of the print sheet in order to save space, deviations can be measured and controlled automatically with an accuracy of +/- 1/100 mm, with lateral, circumferential and diagonal registers being adjusted simultaneously for all colors.

PrinectManage - For high-end integration
Heidelberg's proven DataControl production and information system connects the Prinect modules into a fully integrated solution. It enables seamless communication between man and machine by making all job-related data for a specific situation available directly at the CP 2000 Center. Central archiving of the automatic presetting for the press and its various assemblies greatly reduces setup times for repeat jobs. DataControl makes printshop processes transparent and easy to control.
