Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 105 Now Available in UV Version and as Double-Coating Press

Varied range of finishing options at speeds of up to 18,000
sheets per hour
Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) is now offering the Speedmaster XL 105 in a UV version and as a double-coating press. As a result, the benefits of this series are available for a highly varied range of finishes. The advantages include a production speed of 18,000 sheets per hour, extremely short make-ready times, and outstanding productivity thanks to the high degree of automation. Customers who used these presses in field tests were also able to increase productivity in UV and double-coating printing by up to 30 percent. The Speedmaster XL 105 UV and Speedmaster XL 105 LYYL (L = coating unit, Y = drying unit) have been designed for industrialized print shops in the commercial, label, and packaging sectors. The spectrum for printing stock ranges from 0.03 millimeter to one millimeter. Both versions of the press will be available as standard from mid-2007.

The inking unit itself is kept at a consistent temperature and, in conjunction with the separate ink fountain roller temperature control, enables precise and stable ink metering, thus creating consistent conditions across the entire pressrun. A special feature of the Speedmaster XL 105 UV is its coating unit
with pressurized chambered doctor blade system, which ensures even
better, more even coating results than conventional systems. All UV
presses with coating units are supplied with three extension
modules in the delivery - extended sheet travel helps achieve
optimum gloss effects.
The new DryStar 3000 UV, designed for the sheet travel of the Speedmaster XL 105 UV, has been selected as the UV dryer. The dryers are fully integrated into both the printing unit and delivery. The interdeck dryers can be moved freely from printing unit to printing unit without the need for tools, thus implementing "plug and print" and achieving maximum flexibility.
Speedmaster XL 105 becomes good all-rounder as double-coating press
A double-coating press consists of two coating units and two interdeck units with integrated dryer technology. As an alternative to a pure UV press, the Speedmaster XL 105-LYYL can process conventional inks and give them a UV coating inline once a primer has been applied. A range of combinations are possible such as primers with metallic coatings, Iriodin, or functional coatings.
Whether used as a pure UV press or a hybrid press, there are no more limits to the range of finishing options that are supported.
The infrared and hot-air DryStar 3000 LYL dryer is used in the drying units of the double-coating presses. Both coating units boast extremely high register accuracy for delivering unique finishing quality. The new combination clamping bar enables use of both coating blankets and coating plates, thus offering maximum flexibility.
Over 1,500 Speedmaster XL 105 printing units supplied worldwide
The Speedmaster XL 105 is a completely new platform development from Heidelberg that extends the existing product portfolio in 70 x 100 centimeters (27.56 x 39.37 inches) format. It supports between four and eight colors and an optional coating unit. Since the start of series production in April 2005, over 1,500 printing units from this high-performance press have been delivered worldwide.
