Flexibility and varied coating effects using a combination of
offset and flexographic printing
The Polish printshop JDA Jankowski in Lomza-Kraska is
taking delivery of the first Speedmaster CD 74 Duo in Eastern
Europe at beginning of next year. Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG
(Heidelberg) has supplied the press since the end of 2004 and this
means the tried-and-tested concept of "flexo before
offset", as used in the Speedmaster CD 102 Duo, is now also
available for medium format. In just a single pass, coatings can be
used to create a whole array of different effects which otherwise
could only be achieved with expensive materials or several press
passes.
The JDA Jankowski print shop, one of the largest beer label
manufacturers in Poland, will maximize these advantages with its
Speedmaster Duo
CD 74-2+LY-4+LX. The coating is applied inline in a single
pass - for example, two offset inks are applied, followed by a
special coating such as iriodine or metallic coatings for special
effects, which are then overprinted with four other offset inks and
coated at the end. "The Speedmaster CD 74 Duo is flexible and
boasts high quality levels," confirms JDA owner Miroslav
Jankowski after receiving a demonstration of the new machine in
Wiesloch. "The throughput times are short and the press is
easily adjustable, therefore ensuring high productivity,"
continues Jankowski. A further advantage of the press is the
diversity of printing stocks supported, including paper, film or
card of thicknesses ranging from 0.03 millimeter to 0.8 millimeter
(0.0012 to 0.031 inch).
The JDA Jankowski print shop, founded in 1986, employs 80
staff. The press room also houses two Speedmaster SM 74-6+LX
presses.
