Integrated UV Equipment for Heidelberg Speedmaster CD 74
IPEX 2002 in Birmingham will see Heidelberger Druckmaschinen
AG (Heidelberg) announce a new product for high-end general
commercial printing and packaging/label printing in the form of the
Speedmaster CD 74 with fully integrated UV equipment. This complete
solution for the medium-format sector allows printers to finish
their products with truly stunning effects. It supports UV inks, UV
coatings and inline dual coating.
Heidelberg developed the CD 74 with integrated UV technology
to meet the increased demand for quality finished products. This
press harnesses the advantages of the standard unit and gives
printers a real chance to shine on a hard-fought market. The
Speedmaster CD 74 is fully equipped ex-works, ready for UV
printing. All modules including UV interdeck and end dryers are
perfectly matched. This puts an end to the time-consuming process
of coordinating third-party dryers on-site. Installation time is
cut dramatically. Integrated odor and ink mist extractors enhance
the quality of the working environment. The Speedmaster CD 74 UV is
available in the packaging format (60 x 74 centimeter) and the
commercial printing format (53 x 74 centimeter). All models feature
an extended delivery as standard, which provides a major boost to
production and process reliability. Heidelberg has already
installed eight Speedmaster CD 74 UV units.
The Speedmaster CD 74 also supports inline dual coating and
the combination of conventional offset printing and inline UV
coating. When used with appropriate add-ons, this press option is
also suitable for dual dispersion coating applications, for example
gold or silver coating with additional protective coating.
Speedmaster CD 74: Highly versatile and easy to operate
"With the Speedmaster CD 74, we're giving our customers a
solution that will enable them to produce cost-effectively and be
competitive", explains Dr. Klaus Spiegel, Member of the Management
Board at Heidelberg and responsible for sheetfed operations. "The
entire production process is highly automated, flexible and runs
extremely efficiently." There are now more than 120 presses
installed worldwide. This is a success story that speaks for
itself, since the Speedmaster CD 74 was only put into series
production at the end of 2000.
The Speedmaster CD 74 can be supplied with four, five, six
and eight printing units and a coating system in both the standard
and UV versions. These models have double-width impression
cylinders and air transfer to ensure the reliable transport of a
wide range of printing stock. The preset feeder with central
suction tape, high-speed inking units, Alcolor Vario dampening
systems and the CP2000 Center are further key features of this
series.
Heidelberg developed the Speedmaster CD 74 in part for
packaging & label print shops who find themselves printing ever
smaller runs of cosmetic and pharmaceutical packagings and/or
labels, for example. Specialty businesses can also use the press to
produce plastic cards and tags. However, the machine is also ideal
for general commercial and mixed businesses in the industrial print
sector that often change between paper and card and between
different formats. The Speedmaster CD 74 offers these target groups
a high level of automation, which in turn is reflected in minimum
makeready times and ease of use during both setup and production.
This means significant savings in terms of time, waste and money.
Since the press is controlled via the CP 2000 Center, it can also
be fully integrated into the workflow.
In order to fully address the needs of the two target groups
mentioned above, Heidelberg supplies the Speedmaster CD 74 in two
formats - the packaging format (60 x 74 centimeter) and the
commercial printing format (53 x 74 centimeter). The larger
packaging format model allows a higher number of repeats per sheet.
The commercial printing format (53 x 74 centimeter) makes the
Speedmaster CD 74 ideal for commercial and mixed printers who are
already using a Speedmaster SM 74. The printing plates can be
exchanged between the two presses, thereby complementing each other
and giving the print shop an added degree of flexibility.
The fact that functionality and aesthetics are not
necessarily mutually exclusive in mechanical engineering is amply
demonstrated by the Speedmaster CD 74. In January 2001 it received
the "Top Ten Award" from the Industrie Forum Design Hannover. From
1,320 new products, the panel of judges chose the CD 74 as one of
the ten best designs.
