Successful seminar series now available for participants
worldwide
The Print Media Academy (PMA) of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen
AG (Heidelberg) is launching its successful seminar series
"Succession in Family Businesses" to an international
audience at Ipex 2006 in Birmingham, U.K. Participants at this
seminar will learn how to structure and plan a handover between
generations. They will also be groomed for their role as managing
director of a family business. "The task of passing the reins
from one generation to another is something that affects all
markets," affirms Bernd Schopp, Head of the PMA. "We were
therefore keen to offer this series of seminars, which has enjoyed
great success over several years in Germany, to all other
markets," adds Schopp. Statistics show, for example, that only
one in three family businesses in the U.S. and U.K. manage the
changeover successfully. In markets such as Brazil and China the
situation is no different.
The international seminar "Succession in Family
Businesses" will be held in English. It is aimed at the
specific needs of successors to small and midsize businesses,
whether they are family members or brought in from outside. The
seminar contains three modules, which will be chaired throughout by
a presenter. Experts will examine individual specialist themes. The
first seminar series is due to start in February 2007.
The first module will consist of a seven-day event at the PMA
in Heidelberg focusing on professional organization of the
handing-over process and personal development of participants to
the role of manager. Participants will analyze and reflect on their
individual circumstances in detail and learn techniques to lead
teams and employees. The seminar will also cover selling products
and services. This will be followed by the second module with a
two-day seminar for the older generation that will also be held at
the PMA in Heidelberg. It will discuss smooth changeovers and
planned handing over of businesses from the current owners'
perspective.
The third module will take place six months later, this time
in the country where the majority of participants come from. In a
three-day seminar, the spotlight will be on the legal and financial
circumstances of the handover and the future task in hand. This
module will also focus on managing companies and motivating staff.
The progress made so far in the handover will be scrutinized again
and the plan of action given its final shape.
International training is the key
By offering the "Succession in Family
Businesses" program to a global audience, the PMA is expanding
its range of international seminars. The "Summer
University" has been held in Heidelberg for several years,
providing young managers from all over the world with information
on the very latest management techniques. The "Winter
University", which takes place at different venues, focuses on
the latest technologies and processes for the print media industry.
From April 2006, the PMA will be teaming up with the London
College of Communication (LCC) to offer a new, international
Masters degree course in Print Media. The new course is targeted at
aspiring print media managers and executives and is designed to
build their expertise in technical, strategic, and business
management issues while also expanding their career horizons. The
course involves around nine months of full-time education, two
weeks of which is spent at the PMA in Heidelberg.
The seminar series "Succession in Family
Businesses", held in Germany since April 2000, comprises seven
modules and runs over a period of 15 months. The average business
represented employs between 30 and 40 staff.
