Heidelberg's training network extended further
The opening of another Print Media Academy in December
2000 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, marks a further extension of
Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg)'s international
network for basic and further training in the graphic arts
industry. In 2001, there will be two further openings in Cairo and
Sydney, to accompany the other eight Print Media Academies already
open around the world.
Bernhard Schreier, Chairman of the Management Board at
Heidelberg, speaking at the opening of the Print Media Academy,
highlighted the importance of solid expertise when addressing the
future requirements of the industry. In front of 200 guests from
the worlds of industry and business, Mr. Schreier stated that
Brazil and Sao Paulo in particular were pioneers in the development
of the communications industry in South America.
More than 60% of all print jobs in Brazil are commissioned
and completed in and around Sao Paulo. Dieter Brandt, Head of
Heidelberg do Brasil, also showed visitors to the opening of the
Print Media Academy the showroom integrated in this training
establishment. In keeping with Heidelberg's concept of being a
solution provider from prepress and press to postpress, the
showroom exhibits the latest products from the Heidelberg portfolio
- all of which can be used by the PMA's customers and students
alike.
Courses at the PMA in Sao Paulo will begin at the start of
2001, and there are medium-term plans to extend the service to
other neighboring countries. In Brazil alone, there are around
14,000 printshops - most of which are medium-sized to small
operations. Heidelberg do Brasil looks after these companies via
its central office in Sao Paulo and via a further six smaller
branches. "In a country like Brazil, our customers' highly
diverse requirements mean that it is important to be as near to
them as possible," states Dieter Brandt. Heidelberg do Brasil
employs a total of more than 240 staff, of which 130 work in the
service sector. With its own spare parts warehouse (holding more
than 11,000 parts), Heidelberg is also in a position to be able to
react rapidly to local demands.
