Folder setup times cut
Heidelberg Finishing, a business unit of Heidelberger
Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg), has simplified and improved manual
operations of the TD and KD series Stahlfolders. This cuts the
proportion of total setup time by 10 to 15 percent. The process of
fitting and adjusting creasing and perforation tools generally
accounts for around 30 to 40 percent of the total setup time for a
folder. The new gage reduces this figure significantly.
Heidelberg Finishing uses a patented gage which is mounted on
square cross bars and makes changing tools a quick and reliable
process. Fixed, easy-to-read scales on the folding unit infeed and
exit enable the tool positions to be transferred from the folding
sheet to the slitter shafts. Removal of the slitter shafts is
facilitated by a square cross bar with mounted rollers and
strippers which are easily removed by loosening two knurled screws.
The buckle plates at the top remain in the machine. The square form
of the cross bars ensures that the strippers and rollers function
correctly. Gone is the time-consuming alignment process associated
with the round cross bars normally used. This has eliminated a
frequent cause of stops during the setup procedure.
