Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG: Heidelberg News No. 263
Details
Print Plus X - from Printer to Media Service Provider

One of the main topics in the latest issue of Heidelberg News (number 263) is the rapid expansion of digital media and the far-reaching effects this is having on media usage. As a result, it is now more important than ever that the advantages of print are made absolutely clear. Print shops must therefore ensure that their printed media expertise is firmly focused on the challenges posed by this changing media landscape. One example of this is Dresden-based company SDV. The company has developed into a media service provider that uses information technology for web-based print production, direct marketing and distribution, for example. In another feature, readers can find out about the group of companies working with Franz Kuthal GmbH & Ko. KG in the German town of Mainaschaff and how a combination of print, logistics and IT can open the door to new areas of business. The customer magazine of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG also introduces Oslo-based Joker Grafisk. The company's digital Prinect Workflow has helped it achieve significant growth, even in sparsely populated Norway. And Grasl Druck & Neue Medien in Austria demonstrates how the Prinect Digital Print Manager can successfully - and profitably - combine the worlds of offset and digital printing.

The magazine also provides further details of the new large format machines from Heidelberg, the Speedmaster XL 145 and XL 162, and gives an overview of POLAR-Mohr’s cutting systems. In addition, readers can learn how a Speedmaster SM 52 and Speedmaster CD 74 helped Greek Terry Karis achieve the American Dream. And last, but by no means least, this issue of Heidelberg News features the Swiss Wohn- und Bürozentrum für Körperbehinderte (organization providing residential and work support for disabled people), giving an insight into a very different type of print shop, examines the real business opportunities offered by the virtual world of "Second Life", and asks trend researcher Peter Wippermann for his views on the future of printed media.
