Empirical studies show that at least 60 percent of all supermar- ket purchases are spontane- ous, in other words the shopper did not plan to buy them.
What's more, as many as 85 percent of all perfume buyers supposedly only recognize their brand by its packaging, and not the scent. This all goes to show that labels and packaging can have a significant impact on consumer behavior.
The latest issue of "Heidelberg News" takes a look at the label and packaging manufacturers that specialize in this art of "seduction" and the techniques involved. The authors went to Strand Grafiska in Malmö, Sweden, to investigate how the 30-strong company has become Sweden's largest manufacturer of wet-glue labels thanks to Heidelberg technology. Readers can also learn how long-standing German packaging specialist Freund has managed to overcome bottlenecks in its finishing operations with the Dymatrix 106 die cutter and the Diana Pro 74 folder gluer including Japack Pro case packer. The magazine showcases the new Speedmaster CD 74 Duo, which is increasing flexibility in the medium format sector thanks to its "flexo before offset" concept, and features a portrait of the Diana X 135 folder gluer that exceeds every expectation in the postpress stage with its intelligent design.
The magazine also takes a look at the versatility of the Speedmaster SM 52 series from Heidelberg, gives the reader an insight into Capital Spectrum, one of the most cutting-edge printshops in the USA, and examines particularly innovative pressroom air-conditioning technology at Wolf in Germany. The authors embark on a journey through the history of printing in the Gutenberg Museum, examine the future of the American print market, report on the first unofficial world championships for young printers in Finland and accompany you on a transcontinental trip through the "service desert".
Last but not least, this issue provides readers with advice on how to deal with slow payers and gives tips on attaching tokens to drinks bottles.
