Balancing sales and the environ-ment - focus on paper
The Internet has supposedly turned the world into a global village. Yet the fact remains that this “village” is growing enormously - and so too is its need for paper. Every member of the Earth’s 6 billion population uses on average about 50 kg each year, amounting to a staggering 315 million tons worldwide. In reality, the “Age of Electronic Media” is clearly also the Age of Paper.
In the latest issue print process takes a closer look at paper, the raw material of the print media, along its complete production chain. print process’ correspondents begin by reporting on the Washington World Resources Institute which is using satellites for the first time to document the world's forestry resources. The magazine then takes a look at the problem of balancing sales with environmental issues using the example of a Scandinavian paper mill. print process has also found a British printer, "Beacon Press", whose business is booming precisely because of its green image.
The latest edition also provides an impression of how companies in Japan can achieve print runs extending into millions through printing throwaways, examines the "German standard of workmanship" in the production of annual reports, and takes a look at how two discerning Frenchmen, Thibierge & Comar, create paper of especially fine quality.
Last but not least, print process invites its readers to visit Europe’s largest print provider and organizes a “summit meeting” of the world’s three largest printing press manufacturers.
