Media makers of today - technology as a tool
As ever, the IT community will be celebrating the latest achievements in information technology at this year's CeBIT. But who uses this technology - and what do they do with it? The latest edition of the Heidelberg magazine print process is devoted to the IT specialists who use the cutting-edge tools of their trade to create innovative media.
Firstly, print process introduces its readers to the "Fabrica" where Benetton has created a real hotbed for young creatives. The magazine then goes on to investigate how the communication designers at the Design Company produce work that is both creative and profitable. Using the example of Ogilvy & Mather, the magazine demonstrates how the advertising industry can create extraordinarily successful campaigns with the help of digital printing technology. The print process team also visits the agency Serviceplan to take a closer look at the revolutionary idea of using television in future to send personalized print products.
The magazine also sheds some light on the role of the production engineer as intermediary between creation and technology, takes its readers on a journey to the Internet cities of Dubai and Estonia and visits an old Stuttgart crossing keeper's hut where an extraordinary 80-year-old sculptor called Kurt Weidemann designs new logos for Porsche and Mercedes.
And last but not least, readers get a glimpse behind the scenes at that bastion of tradition, the Savoy Hotel, which is using its archive, believe it or not, as a modern marketing tool.
