Heidelberg Quickmaster DI 46-4: DryStar Ink compact upradable
infrared dryer for greatly accelerated sheet finishing o As an
alternative there is a special combination of paper and ink with
extremely short drying time
Since drupa 1995, the Quickmaster DI 46-4 has delivered
shorter make-ready times and higher production speeds than any
other small-offset press. The unit's high level of automation
and its ability to transfer digital data directly from the prepress
stage for imaging plates in the press makes this digital offset
press the ideal solution for the short run color market. The
Quickmaster DI 46-4 reaches speeds of up to 10,000 sheets per hour
in production runs, thereby ensuring that short runs of up to 500
sheets, for example, can be produced in less than 20 minutes
including make-ready times. Complete job changes take less
than ten minutes. In the past, this fast printing process has
been followed by drying times of several hours. To deliver the
short throughput times required on the market, Heidelberg offers a
special fast-drying paper-ink combination plus a compact infrared
dryer, which will be presented at drupa 2000. Depending on the job,
this can reduce the waiting time before finishing to less than an
hour.
Faster no time to the finishing stage
The IR dryer is equipped with four medium-wave length carbon
radiators with an infrared spectrum in the absorption range of
offset inks. The radiators greatly accelerate the physical and
chemical processes involved in offset ink drying. The faster drying
process also greatly reduces the need for spray powdering.
Heidelberg's DryStar Ink compact is integrated into existing
delivery and can also be retrofitted to existing presses.
As an alternative to the infrared dryer, Heidelberg will soon
be offering special papers and inks for the Quickmaster DI 46-4
which will reduce drying times even further. These papers and inks
will be offered in cooperation with Zanders Feinpapiere AG and BASF
Drucksysteme GmbH. This solution virtually does away with the need
for spray powder. Both procedures ensure excellent offset quality
and make short delivery times a reality.
Printing with excellent productivity
The Quickmaster DI 46-4 provides printshops and prepress
businesses with a profitable platform for entering the short run
color market. This machine, which was chosen as product of the year
by readers of IN-PLANT Printer magazine and the Print Image
Association will also provide digital service providers and
advertising agencies with a profitable means of expanding their
service portfolio. To date, over 1,300 Quickmaster DI 46-4 units
have been installed. The speed, cost efficiency and quality of this
Quickmaster DI makes it exceptionally productive. According to the
independent American market research institute CAP Venture, this
unit achieves average gross profit margins of 13 percent over
the industry level.
From drupa 2000, the profitability check will be integrated
in the workflow. The Business Workflow allows all operating data
relating to a specific job on the Quickmaster DI 46-4 to be
collated in order that business management evaluations can be
performed. In addition there is a link to industry software. The
workflow has also been optimized in the prepress sector. The new
version of the Delta Technology RIP software ensures that all
digital standard formats can be adopted from the prepress stage.
Optimized multiprocessor technology ensures accelerated speed.
