New RIP with optimized multiprocessor technology o Open for a
broad range of input formats through Delta Technology 6.1 or
Harlequin ScriptWorks 5.3 o Delta options for controlling proofers
and trapping o New plug-ins and software support enhanced
reliability and accelerate processing operations
Heidelberg will be presenting its new RIPs for all
direct imaging machines at drupa 2000. This includes the
presentation of the new Delta Technology 6.1 version for the
Quickmaster DI 46-4 and Speedmaster 74 DI and the Harlequin
ScriptWorks 5.3 update for the Quickmaster DI 46-4. The new DI RIPs
are based on powerful IBM workstations, a fact which has greatly
increased the computing power of the Intel-processor RIPs based on
the Window NT operating system. The new software has made the RIPs
even faster and, thanks to the high storage capacity, enables jobs
to be prepared for up to two shifts. The RIP software supports a
wide range of input formats. Harlequin ScriptWorks 5.3 supports
PostScript 3, PDF 1.3, Delta Tech 6.1, PostScript 3, PDF 1.3,
TIFF/IT(P1) and Delta lists as well as CT/LW (optional). Delta 6.1
also enables integration into Heidelberg's Prinergy workflow
management system. It analyzes the Prinergy job tickets, enabling
the jobs to be processed and imaged automatically.
Fully digital workflow with Delta Technology
Used in conjunction with the Quickmaster DI 46-4 and
Speedmaster 74 DI presses, Delta Technology provides a digital
workflow which is unrivalled in terms of speed or precision. Delta
Technology uses the R.O.O.M. concept, where data once ripped can be
output on both proofers and DI systems. The integrated bitmap
viewer allows the digital print form to be checked right up until
the last minute before imaging. In conjunction with DI presses,
Delta Technology also supports n-color calibration which can be
used to simulate any dot gain. A number of options are available
for In-Rip trapping, form proofs, Color Management, color proofs,
OPI, Signa and Prinergy linkups and import of external data.
Jobstream, a printer driver plug-in for Adobe PostScript, now
also provides Delta users with composite job processing controlled
by a Color Management system. A preflight check for input data
prevents incorrect imaging by identifying hairlines, low-res
images, incorrect formats and wrong fonts. A further
rationalization function supported by Delta Technology is the
possibility of archiving data in the spool directory for subsequent
finishing.
The complete digital workflow enables printshops to maximize
profitability even with short runs. "Digital production of
short to medium 4-color runs is becoming increasingly lucrative,
since customers are looking for flexible production geared to their
specific target groups", explains Dietmar Walz, responsible
for international sales and marketing at Heidelberg's Direct
Imaging Business Unit. There is a very definite trend towards
digital press networking in the overall production process.

From July 2000 onwards, the Quickmaster DI 46-4 will be
available with Delta Technology 6.1. This new version of the RIP
software supports a wide range of input formats and allows
integration into the Heidelberg Prinergy workflow management
system.
