Heidelberg Speedmaster 74 DI: CP2000 Center press control system
for greater ease of use o Optional InkLine ink cartridge system for
shorter makeready times o Direct Imaging of thermal printing plates
in the press o Versatility for short runs thanks to fifth and sixth
printing unit, perfecting, coating unit and Heidelberg DryStar
dryer
Direct Imaging is synonomous with fast, high-quality
printing. It is ideal for the short run color market. At drupa
2000, Heidelberg will be presenting its Speedmaster 74 DI, a
digital high-end press for medium formats, with the attractive
drupa 2000 generation styling. It is also faster and more flexible
than ever before. The CP 2000 Center press control system ensures
exceptional ease of use and forms the basis for integrating the
Speedmaster 74 DI into a printshop network. Thanks to on-press
imaging of printing plates and a high level of automation, the
Speedmaster 74 DI is the perfect unit for digital service providers
and printshops wanting to cover the entire value added chain from
data capture to press. The new features include the optional
InkLine ink cartridge system and contribute to further reductions
in makeready times.
No time lost to print
The ergonomic control station of the CP2000 Center is
equipped with a swivel-mounted touchscreen with a color display
whose user interface combines a clearly arranged menu structure
with practical online help. The control station can be used to
control the entire press including lateral, circumferential and
diagonal registers, washup devices for inking units and dampening
systems, blanket and impression cylinders and plate imaging - and
does all this quickly and with minimum effort.
The imaging of processless thermal plates from different
vendoss needs only 3.5 minutes in all printing units. A resolution
of 2400 dpi and thermal imaging technology ensure excellent print
quality. The InkLine ink cartridge system fills the ink fountain
automatically using standard cartridges. InkLine guarantees a
constant ink level throughout the printing process, thereby
ensuring consistently high quality. A further advantage of the
optimized ink feed made possible by InkLine is the reduced setup
times involved when changing inks.
Ideal for the short run color market
The Speedmaster 74 DI is available as a four-, five- or
six-color press. Equipped with optional perfecting system, coating
device and Heidelberg DryStar dryer, it offers a whole range of
options as regards color, format and printing stock. This
versatility is precisely what is needed in the short run color
market. The Speedmaster 74 DI is therefore the perfect digital
press for offset quality and short color runs. Some 40 of these
machines have already been installed worldwide. The Speedmaster 74
DI of the drupa 2000 generation will be available in the summer.
The managing director of the DIMEDIA printshop in Hanau,
Ernst Hahn, stresses two key arguments for using a DI press,
"The Speedmaster 74 DI allows enormous reductions in makeready
and production times for proofing and production runs and therefore
goes a long way towards compensating customers' ever shorter
deadlines. This gives printshops a cost advantage which cannot be
underestimated when it comes to short runs and, in our case, proof
prints."

Heidelberg provides Direct Imaging in two format classes
- the Quickmaster DI 46-4 for A3 and the Speedmaster 74 DI for A2.
The swivel-mounted touchscreen of the CP 2000 Center, equipped with
color display, ensures that the Speedmaster 74 DI can be controlled
quickly and easily. The optional InkLine ink cartridge system helps
cut makeready times.
