New design and larger formats enhance performance
At the Ipex trade fair in Birmingham, U.K., from April 9-17, Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) is exhibiting a new model in the thermal Topsetter series. With more plate formats supported, much faster imaging speed and a new design throughout from the loader right down to the processor, the Topsetter P 74 is an exciting new addition to the Topsetter range. This new member of Heidelberg's thermal imagesetter family comes hot on the heels of the Topsetter PF 102 unveiled at Print in September last year.
Faster imaging, broader formats, more attractive design Thanks to its variable plate width, the new Topsetter P 74 (P stands for Plus i.e. more formats) now supports Printmaster QM 46 and Printmaster GTO 46 presses for small formats. The external-drum imagesetter, which supports formats up to 830 mm x 660 mm for the Speedmaster CD 74, also meets the needs of packaging printing. The increased throughput of up to 20 plates per hour ensures reliable production during peak periods. The laser head with its 32 individually exchangeable diodes makes the Topsetter P 74 particularly easy to maintain.
Dr. Klaus Spiegel, Member of the Heidelberg Management Board and responsible for the Sheetfed Solution Center, is committed to this end-to-end system: "The Topsetter P 74 and PF 102 with their automatic plate loading devices and Glunz & Jensen processors in standardized design are the first completely integrated, fully coordinated systems on the market."
The new MetaShooter workflow module can be used in conjunction with the TIFF-B format to integrate Heidelberg's state-of-the-art CtF and CtP imagesetters in the Topsetter and Prosetter series into existing and older workflows such as Prinergy and Delta. The Topsetter P 74 is controlled directly via the MetaDimension software.
One advantage of the new thermal imagesetter is its modularity. This enables up to two different inline punches to be integrated for various presses. The Topsetter P 74 supports both semi-automatic and fully automatic plate processing, meaning that it can be matched perfectly to the existing level of automation. In fully automated mode, the Autoloader also removes the slip sheets. The market launch of the Topsetter P 74 is planned for the third quarter of this year.
The family principle The Topsetter family is made up of various modules, making it easy to adapt to particular customer needs. This fully coordinated end-to-end solution consists of the automatic loading unit, the external-drum imagesetter and the processor. The optional single-cassette loaders (SCL) provide the required level of automation for up to 100 plates in one format. The Topsetter P 74 also has a multi-cassette loader (MCL) for 300 plates in three different formats. For the Topsetter P 102 and PF 102, the MCL has a capacity of up to 500 plates for 5 different formats. The smallest member of the thermal imaging family is the Topsetter P 74 with up to 20 plates per hour and a 32-diode laser head.
The Topsetter P 102 has also been available in 8-up format with a throughput of 13 plates per hour since the end of last year. The flagship of the series is the Topsetter PF 102 which has a 64-channel laser head and images 20 plates per hour. Perfectly coordinated processors from Glunz&Jensen optimize production workflows.
