Single cassette loader announced for the Prosetter
Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) is automating its
violet Prosetter platesetters. At this year's IPEX exhibition the
solutions provider to the entire printing and media industry will
be unveiling a Prosetter 102 with a single cassette loader (SCL)
that supports daylight production.
The end-to-end automation of the print process is now a key
factor in ensuring cost-effective and reliable production.
Previously, very few small- to medium-sized printshops were able to
achieve the level of automation they wanted, due to prohibitive
investment costs. Heidelberg is changing this situation by adding a
single cassette loader to the Prosetter family.
"Heidelberg's strategy is based on system openness and
modular design", explains Dr. Klaus Spiegel, Member of Heidelberg's
Management Board responsible for the Sheetfed Solution Center. "The
single cassette loader for the Prosetter series enables smaller
printshops to feel the benefits of this strategy too. The option to
upgrade at a later stage and a space-saving 90° configuration
make this system ideal for printshops starting out with CtP,"
explains Dr. Spiegel.
The main advantage, aside from the automation, is that the
unit can be operated easily during daylight, since the cassettes
are loaded into the SCL via a special, lightproof cassette
carriage. The cassette can hold up to 150 plates of 0.15 mm
thickness, or 100 plates of 0.30 mm thickness. Slip sheets are
removed automatically, and up to 400 sheets can be stored in the
collection tray.
The integrated conveyor links the platesetter and the
optional processor - e.g. the Raptor from Glunz & Jensen,
which can be integrated perfectly into the system. The Prosetter
interface controls the entire process chain - from the SCL to
the Raptor online processor. The single cassette loader supports
all formats in the Prosetter family, and is compatible with all
types of plates. The market launch is planned for the end of the
year.
Modular concept
With the Topsetter and Prosetter series, Heidelberg now
offers the industry's most extensive range of CtP products. The two
series focus on different customer needs. For long job runs and UV
inks, for instance, the external drum thermal imaging technology
provided by the Topsetter is ideal. The multi cassette loader
offers maximum automation, so that production can continue
unrestricted under daylight conditions.
The Prosetter involves lower investment costs and thus
represents an ideal gateway into CtP for small- and medium-sized
businesses. The Prosetter uses internal drum technology and with
its integrated punches delivers exceptional register accuracy. The
Prosetter F 102 (F for fast) images up to 18 plates an hour, while
the Prosetter F 74 can image up to 24 an hour. The modular
construction ensures that models can be retrofitted to meet rising
demands. The Prosetter 52 can be upgraded to 4-up format on site,
while the Prosetter 74 and 102 can also be upgraded on-site to the
Fast versions in just half a day.

Heidelberg is now also bringing automation to the CtP
entry-level market. The single cassette loader for the Prosetter
announced at IPEX has a capacity of up to 150 plates and supports
production in daylight conditions. The unit is set to be launched
onto the market at the end of the year.
