The 100,000th printing unit in the 70 x 100 centimeter (27.56 x
39.37 inch) format has just rolled off the production line at
Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg). It forms part of a
Speedmaster SM 102 perfecting press with a total of eight printing
units that is destined for the Danagårds Grafiska print shop
in Sweden. This drupa 2008 generation press is equipped with the
new Prinect Press Center control station. Danagårds Grafiska
has also invested in a second Speedmaster 102 perfecting press with
a total of ten printing and coating units.
"The 100,000 Speedmaster SM/CD 102 printing units
supplied are evidence of an unprecedented success story and prove
the appeal to our customers of of the cutting-edge Heidelberg
technology in this format class. Users particularly appreciate this
format's legendary Heidelberg quality, productivity, and
reliability, combined with the most comprehensive service network
in the industry," states Dr. Jürgen Rautert, Member of
the Management Board, responsible for Products, Engineering and
Manufacturing, during a press conference at the Wiesloch-Walldorf
site.
Speedmaster 102 - the ultimate in tried-and-tested technology
from Heidelberg
Heidelberg launched the Speedmaster 102 format class back
in 1975 and has kept introducing new enhancements to satisfy ever
tougher market needs. The Speedmaster SM 102 is the most popular of
all long perfecting presses. It is available with up to 12 printing
units and is still synonymous with the concept of One-Pass
Productivity. This press series is very often used in the
commercial printing sector. Two different product lines are
currently available - the Speedmaster SM 102 and the Speedmaster
CD 102.
Heidelberg added the Speedmaster CD 102 to its portfolio in
1986. It is designed as a universal straight printing press for
everything from thin paper to cardboard and display board.
Heidelberg is the clear market leader worldwide in this
format class - it supplies every second straight printing press on
the world market and has a market share of around 75 percent for
long perfecting presses that can switch between straight and
perfecting modes. This makes the Speedmaster 102 series the
company's most successful product.
The Speedmaster 102 drupa 2008 generation offers a number of
innovations
The Speedmaster 102 is heading for drupa 2008 with a
whole host of innovations. Equipped with the Prinect Press Center,
the new press control station for all Speedmaster models and based
on the completely new Sheetfed Control press control system, the
model boasts state-of-the-art technology and thus delivers a
further boost to productivity. The Intellistart software available
with the new press control station cuts makeready times
dramatically during job changes.
A further highlight is the dynamic sheet slow-down device in
the delivery. This ensures even smoother and more reliable sheet
travel for low grammages and print jobs where the motif allows only
two slow-down modules to be used.
More efficient use of resources is another key focal point of
this new press generation, which has been checked for emissions by
the German Institution for Statutory Insurance and Prevention in
the Printing and Paper Industry. More precise metering of
isopropanol and dampening solution additives in the new CombiStar
protects the environment and cuts costs. The latest PowderStar and
CleanStar models boast excellent green credentials, too. In
addition to their lower emission values, the more targeted use of
materials and more effective extraction system result in fewer
powder-related stoppages. Last but not least, AirStar, the internal
air supply system, cuts energy consumption by half.
"The list of Speedmaster 102 innovations on show at
drupa 2008 demonstrates the continuing importance of this series,
both for our customers and for Heidelberg itself. The success story
shows no signs of coming to an end," concludes Rautert.
