During IFRA 99 Heidelberg introduced its new high-volume
newspaper packaging system: the new NP 1280
"We intend to become the leading supplier of Newspaper
press and mailroom equipment", explained Heidelberg Web
Systems President Bob Brown.
The NP 1280 is the first inserting system in the industry to
feature independent, servo-driven components. It is expandable up
to 80 hoppers and is designed to help newspapers capitalize on the
growth in free standing insert volumes, while empowering them to
customize individual editions with greater speed and flexibility.
Shaftless technology allows the hoppers on the NP 1280 to be
adjusted on the fly and be taken in and out of production for
different zones while the machine is running at full speed.
This provides the flexibility to facilitate truly automatic
zone changes without impacting speed or productivity. It also
eliminates mechanical line shafts, gear drive trains and couplings,
greatly reducing maintenance requirements and power consumption.
Hoppers on the NP 1280 are equipped with on-board and
innovative differential gripper drums. A fully automatic caliper
senses the thickness of the product and verifies exactly what the
hopper has fed.
