Heidelberg's new software invades Xerox's territory
Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg), the leading
solution provider for the entire print industry, is presenting the
latest developments in the digital printing industry at CeBIT.
Heidelberg is currently equipping its digital Digimaster 9110 black
and white press with software with the capacity to recognize and
process practically all the popular file formats used in computer
centers in industry, administration, banks and insurance companies.
This takes Heidelberg into a market for which, up till now, Xerox
was practically the only supplier. "The potential for possible new
installations constitutes around 12,000 digital presses in the next
five years. We are well on our way to becoming market leader in the
digital printing industry. We are currently looking at the planning
figures for the sale of our Digimaster 9110 and we have already
sold 2000 machines," states Holger Reichardt, Heidelberg's
Marketing Director, at the company's CeBIT press con-ference in
Hanover. Heidelberg obtained the new software from the Karlsruhe
company CSP. Sales of the NexPress 2100 digital color press are to
open in September at Print 2001 in Chicago.
Heidelberg is presenting its products in Hall 1 over a total
area of around 900 square meter. The former 150 square-meter stand
had become too small to display the full Heidelberg digital product
portfolio. "Here at CeBIT we are showing how the digital workflow
from prepress through to finishing is set up in an integrated print
and media house. Many printshops are just waiting for a universal
software provider to emerge with a complete product portfolio in
the print media industry," states Holger Reichardt.
The tremendous increase in productivity of digital and analog
presses makes an efficient workflow even more important - the
administrative work and prepress data handling therefore take a
slice of the time spent on the overall production process. The
corresponding software for optimizing the workflow helps save time
and money and thereby safeguard the com- pany's
competitiveness. Heidelberg and its commitment to software are
paving the way into an important new growth market.
