Heidelberg Accessory Enables Insertion of
Pre-Printed Material into Black-and-White Documents

10/12/2000

Heidelberg also offers perfect bookbinding from Digimaster print engine

Placing both color documents and image-rich pieces in black-and-white reports, booklets and other printed materials is easy, with a new post-process inserter from Heidelberg Digital L.L.C.

The Heidelberg Inserter is a new accessory for the Heidelberg Digimaster 9110 Network Imaging System that enables users to insert covers and other pre-printed information into documents after the marking engine - while maximizing throughput time in both simplex and duplex jobs. With three paper drawers to hold up to 4,000 sheets, the Heidelberg Inserter has the highest sheet capacity in the industry.

Heidelberg Digital also will soon offer the Heidelberg Perfect Binder - made by C.P. Bourg and supported by Heidelberg - which allows perfect, on-demand bookbinding. "The Digimaster print engine gives customers an outstanding high-performance solution for high-volume, on-demand printing," said Frank Hacknauer, product development project manager, Heidelberg Digital. "With the addition of the inserter and perfect binder, digital printing environments will be able to offer even more output solutions to their customers."

Inserting pre-printed materials, easily
Heidelberg Digital designed the new inserter with the customer in mind. With the same look of the paper supply module and just 31 inches in width, the accessory fits seamlessly into an existing print system.

Unlike competitive offerings, the Heidelberg Inserter employs a vacuum-feed system, which allows a broad range of substrates and paper sizes to be included in a document. This enables the product to maximize throughput, while not diminishing the paper supply capacity for the print engine.

The inserter's unique three-drawer configuration offers a 4,000-sheet capacity and enables the production of complex documents through the insertion of preprinted materials in a variety of substrates.

  • Drawer #1 holds 1,000 sheets of paper, in standard sizes from 8x10 inches to 9x14 inches in weights of 60 to 200 gsm.
  • Drawer #2 also carries 1,000 sheets, in standard sizes from 8x10 inches to 14x18 inches and in weights of 60 to 200 gsm.
  • Drawer #3 has a sheet capacity of 2,000, in standard incremental sizes from 8x10 inches to 11x17 inches, in weights of 60 to 200 gsm.
The new inserter will be available beginning the first quarter of 2001 at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of 30,500 US-Dollar. Heidelberg's Digimaster print engine is employed in high-volume printing systems sold and serviced through Canon, Danka, Heidelberg and IBM.

Perfect bookbinding
The Heidelberg Perfect Binder is also a versatile accessory that is easily integrated into an existing Digimaster print engine system.

The binder produces in-line cover-bound books in a maximum book thick- ness of 1.6 inch (about 350 sheets of 20# paper), in 8.5x11 inches and A4 sizes. It accepts a variety of cover types, including glossy paper and cutout or transparent front covers, in weights of 20 to 135 pounds.

The binder will also be available in the first quarter 2001 at a manufac- turer's suggested retail price of 73,000 US-Dollar.
