Heidelberg Presents Digimaster at CeBIT

Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) will be presenting the fully digital black/white "Digimaster 9110 Network Imaging System" at CeBIT. The system can be used for the production of professional A3 and A4 documents in networks, for inline production of A4 and A5 brochures and for digital reproduction of analog originals. The recommended monthly volume is 200,000 to 1,000,000 prints. The Digimaster outputs up to 110 A4 prints per minute (A3: 55 prints) simplex and duplex.

Successful market launch in Europe, with installations in England, France and Germany

Flexible and fast: Fully-integrated black/white digital press from Heidelberg at CeBIT 2000 o Daily demonstration: Perfect paper workflow on the Digimaster 9110

The trend is clear: Industry analyses predict a three-fold increase in the print-on-demand market by 2002. Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg)'s response to CeBIT 2000 is the Digimaster 9110. The Digimaster 9110 extends Heidelberg's solutions portfolio for fully digitized black/white printing of small and personalized runs. This fully digitized B/W press for network integration is the vanguard of a new system generation whose key feature is flexibility. The presses come with various finishing features already fully integrated. The first installations of the digital presses from Heidelberg have been successfully carried out in England, France and Germany.

Top-quality, high-speed printing on demand becomes reality with the Digimaster 9110. Heidelberg is linking the CeBIT presentation with a user test, which puts the concept through its paces. The Digimaster 9110 will be used to produce and finish multi-page printed documents under everyday conditions in the space of a few minutes.

At the heart of the demonstration lies the Digimaster 9110's cross-system paper workflow. This means that 4c prints can be transferred from e.g. a Quickmaster offset press to the Digimaster for low-run personalized B/W printing or finishing. Customized printing is supported by six paper magazines which can be programmed to feed pages for printing or to impose pages as required.

The Digimaster 9110's impressive register accuracy makes dual-sided (recto and verso) digital printing possible in professional quality. With 600 dpi physical resolution and tried-and-tested HDI technology, the print quality also sets a new standard in terms of graphic and image reproduction. The Digimaster's other advantages include its ability to process paper grammages of between 60 and 200 gsm flexibly and easily, even with dual-sided printing.

The consistent TCP/IP orientation of the Digimaster 9110 ensures straightforward integration into local and global network architectures. They can be operated with ease using a browser-based interface. All processes are programmed and controlled centrally via the client front-end - a workflow popular with users. The extension and adaptation of system software using various plug-ins increases the system's functionality.

Another of the Digimaster 9110's features is its modular construction. A comprehensive range of optional products allows flexible expansion to an integrated high-performance printing system. The options include an additional paper module which extends the stock of A3 or A4 paper to up to 8,000 sheets in 6 paper magazines. A scanning workstation with a 600 dpi scanner can make simple digital copies of reflective originals. The finisher has a capacity of 3000 sheets and can process up to 100 sheets inline. The stitching thread length can be matched to the size of the document. On top of all this, a stacker is available with a capacity of 5000 sheets in A3 and A4 format.

The optional Booklet Maker automatically gives the documents an edge trim. Spine adjustment in line with the individual brochure thicknesses is taken care of by client front end programming.
