Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) is unveiling the
Speedmaster XL 105 with perfecting device at drupa 2008. This Peak
Performance Class press sets new standards in terms of productivity
and cost-efficiency in perfecting mode. It helps to boost
productivity levels in perfecting mode by up to 40 percent compared
with other presses currently available on the market. This
high-performance press also provides all the technical benefits of
the straight printing press and integrates innovative perfecting
technology in one complete end-to-end system that achieves speeds
of up to 15,000 sheets per hour.
With the introduction of the Speedmaster XL 105 at drupa
2004, a new performance class was launched for industrial-scale
commercial, label, and packaging printing.
"The straight printing press has met our customers'
every expectation," states Dr. Jürgen Rautert, Board
Member responsible for Engineering and Manufacturing at
Heidelberg. The 1,000th printing unit rolled off the
production lines in March 2006.
In November 2007, the Speedmaster XL 105 won the prestigious
PIA/GATF InterTech Technology Award.
Technology leadership in perfecting presses
The Speedmaster SM 102 has been the clear global market
leader in the 70 cm x 100 cm format class for many years.
In order to expand its product range in the 70 x 100
centimeter (27.56 x 39.37 inch) format class for drupa 2008,
Heidelberg now offers customers who value maximum productivity and
cost efficiency the ideal solution.
The principle of fully automatic three-drum perfecting
technology with variable transfer cylinder and eccentric reversing
drum is now being further enhanced with high-precision and
ultra-smooth sheet travel. The innovative, variable AirTransfer
system and exchangeable shells for the impression and transfer
cylinders ensure that perfected sheets are guided mark-free through
the press. Special components in the delivery such as the dynamic
sheet brake and suction segment disks provide reliable quality at
top speeds of around 15,000 sheets per hour in perfecting mode.
The highest level of automation in the 70 x 100 centimeter
format class
The fully automatic perfecting device and comprehensive
automation of numerous process steps help minimize makeready times
and raise productivity levels. The new high-performance Prinect
Press Center control station and the brand new Sheetfed Control
press control system deliver simple and central press control.
What's more, the innovative Intellistart process-oriented operator
guidance system also helps deliver shorter makeready times during
job changes.
Keeping the environment in mind
Environmental concerns such as energy efficiency, a long
service life, reduced waste volumes, and low emissions are at the
heart of product development. A sophisticated technological concept
makes the Speedmaster XL 105 perfecting press an environmentally
friendly unit, even when operating at top speed. The PowderStar AP
500 Duo from Heidelberg is a unique powder spray device for
perfecting printing. Optimized powder distribution helps to boost
the efficiency of powder application, meaning that less powder is
required.
The CleanStar process air cleaning system collects stray
powder and extracts it to minimize the accumulation of dust and
unpleasant odors at the press. This in turn means that the press
requires far less cleaning.
