At IPEX 2010, Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) will be
unveiling a Speedmaster SM 52 Anicolor with new high-pile delivery
and a new coating unit featuring the DryStar Coating dryer for
short-run printing. The new coating unit has been specially
designed for full-area protective or gloss coatings and provides
users with an entry-level coating solution. It is aimed at small to
medium-sized commercial print shops that can use it to enhance
their added value through additional coating applications as well
as getting to the finishing stage faster. In addition to purely
protective coating, it is also possible to apply matt, gloss, and
drip-off coatings. Print shops can stand out from the crowd through
short delivery times, high quality, and cost-effective production,
particularly in small-format printing.
Entry-level press meets customer needs
The Speedmaster SM 52 with coating unit and an extended
high-pile delivery with DryStar Combination dryer system consisting
of two dryer modules has been a popular choice with users since it
was launched onto the market in 2000. Its high output has made it
the benchmark in the 35 x 50 cm (13.78 x 19.69 in) format.
The success of the Speedmaster SM 52 has resulted in a 25
percent increase in quality requirements for print products with
coatings in each of the last three years. Customers operating with
only a limited amount of space are also keen to benefit from this
option. Heidelberg has responded to these increased quality
requirements by developing an entry-level machine for coating
applications with high-pile delivery. This new development
comprises the DryStar Coating dryer system for Speedmaster SM 52,
which consists of a module with an infrared/hot-air dryer. The new
machine is over 80 centimeters (31.50 inches) shorter and therefore
requires less space and less energy, which in turn helps the
environment.
This new coating solution will be available for the
Speedmaster SM 52 and Speedmaster SM 52 Anicolor for four- or
five-color models from the end of 2010. Optimum results are
possible with the Saphira coatings tested by Heidelberg.
Tried-and-tested coating technology
A choice of two coating systems is available for the new
coating unit - the two-roller system if the amounts and types of
coating change frequently and the chambered blade system for
precisely defined and reproducible quantities of coating. The new
DryStar Coating dryer module is integrated via a CanBus interface
into the Prinect Press Center, from where it can be easily
controlled. The efficient round-nozzle system, which is already
being used successfully for Speedmaster XL 105 dryer modules,
ensures more effective drying in conjunction with hot-air
technology, while also consuming less power.
