For the first time, the design prize of the Dr.-Ing. E.h. Hubert
H.A. Sternberg Foundation was this year awarded during drupa as the
"Print Creativity Award", part of the :output
competition. The award has a prize fund of 3,000 Euro.
At the award ceremony on June 9, Bernhard Schreier, Chairman
of the Management Board of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG and
Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Sternberg Foundation,
stressed that the "Print Creativity Award" recognizes
work that reveals new potential in working with the medium of
"print". The Sternberg Foundation specifically selected
concepts which go beyond the boundaries of print technology and
establish connections with other forms of media.
The international jury assessed approximately 1,250 works
from around 40 countries, including 110 interactive pieces and 80
works from the architecture sector. The judges were particularly
impressed by the high quality of the entries and the professional
elaboration of the concepts.
Overall, three recognition awards and the main "Print
Creativity Award" were presented. Each of the award-winning
works demonstrated a brand new approach to visual language and an
innovative combination of media and technologies.
The "Print Creativity Award" was presented to:
Gisela Noack's Bookbinding Workshops poster by Tomas Celizna
+ Daniel Harding, Yale University School of Art
The poster was created as part of an event organized by
Professor Gisela Noack. It consists of four separate stacks of
paper, each of which is bound and perforated and features a
different typography and color. The observer is encouraged to rip
off single sheets, meaning the poster is subject to constant
alteration and reconfiguration.
Special recognitions were awarded to:
1. Visual Cut Bulgaria by Andrean Nechev, Dusseldorf
University of Applied Sciences
2. The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by
Christopher Jung + Tobias Wenig Leipzig Academy of Visual Arts
3. Planting Wild Flower Meadows - A Packaging Concept
for Flower Seeds by Valerie Rapp, Darmstadt University of Applied
