Joint concept by Heidelberg and Glunz & Jensen
Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) has been awarded
the I.D. Annual Design Review prize for its high-end CtP solution
Topsetter. This is one of the oldest, biggest and most prestigious
design awards in the US. The prize was awarded for the overall CtP
solution, which combines the plate magazine and imagesetter from
Heidelberg with the InterPlater HD online processor from Danish
manufacturer Glunz & Jensen.
Since 1954, the I.D. Design Review prize has been awarded
annually by US magazine I.D. to particularly exceptional and
innovative product designs from seven different categories. Last
year, for example, the award was won by Apple's G4 Cube. A panel of
judges made up of members of I.D.'s editorial team and well-known
consumers awarded this year's prize, which is now in its 48th year,
and chose the Topsetter as the winner from some 2,800 entrants from
21 nations in the "Equipment" category. The results of the
competition will be published in the August edition of I.D. and
will also be posted on the Internet at
www.idonline.com.
The Topsetter with an automatic plate loading device and
Glunz & Jensen processor in standardized design is the first
completely integrated, fully coordinated CtP system on the market,
and boasts top performance. The standard design was the result of
cooperation between the two companies and was also based on the
design of Heidelberg's Speedmaster series. The CtP system and the
press thus combine to create a visually appealing, high-tech unit
in the printshop, meeting the high requirements of modern
printrooms head-on and reflecting Heidelberg's solution strategy to
brilliant effect.
The Topsetter family is made up of various modules, making it
easy to adapt to particular customer needs. This fully coordinated
end-to-end solution consists of the automatic loading unit, the
external drum imagesetter and the InterPlater HD online processor
from Glunz & Jensen.
The optional single-cassette loaders (SCL) provide the
required level of automation for up to 100 plates in one format.
The Topsetter P 74 also has a multi-cassette loader (MCL) for 300
plates in three different formats. For the Topsetter P 102 and PF
102, the MCL has a capacity of up to 500 plates for five different
formats.
The smallest member of the thermal imagesetter family is the
Topsetter P 74, which images up to 20 plates per hour and has a
32-diode laser head. The Topsetter P 102 has also been available in
8-up format with a throughput of 13 plates per hour since the end
of last year. The flagship of the series is the Topsetter PF 102,
which has a 64-channel laser head and images 20 plates per hour.
Perfectly coordinated processors from Glunz & Jensen ensure
reliable and efficient production workflows.
