Heidelberg Produces the Best Sustainability Report

Chamber of Auditors awards the "German Environmental Report
Award 2001" in Berlin
Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) today received first prize in the "Best Sustainability Reporting" category. The prize was awarded by the Chamber of Auditors in Berlin. This is the first time that a prize has been awarded for this category by a panel of experts as part of the "German Environmental Reporting Award" 2001 (DURA). The award is intended to reflect the growing significance of sustainability reporting.
Reviewing Heidelberg's report, the panel of experts praised the way in which it included environmentally focused, economic and social aspects in equal measure, and thus succeeded in making the issue of sustainability a clearly-understood, key part of Heidelberg's corporate policy. Since 1993, the company has been publishing its environmental activities in the form of a report, which since last year has also been augmented by business and social issues covered in a sustainability report.
"With this report, we have provided a comprehensive insight into our corporate strategy as a basis for sustainable development", said Dr. Klaus Spiegel, Member of the Management Board at Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG. "We regard the coherent combination of economic, ecological and social aspects - achieved for example through increased efficiency, the transfer of expertise and the development of the best possible products for the world's growing needs - as a major challenge for the future". The company, he added, will continue to push ahead with its drive for open and credible reporting.
As a national winner, Heidelberg will also be taking part in the European competition for the European Environmental Reporting Awards (EERA), supported by the European Commission's Directorate-General of the Environment.
