The new product design from Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG
(Heidelberg) is impressive: a total of five Heidelberg
products won the iF Product Design Award 2001 in mid January.
The iF seal for outstanding design quality is one of the most
important awards for national and international companies and
designers. The Speedmaster CD 74 press received a special prize as
one of the ten best entries out of a total of 1,320. The
Speedmaster CD 74 belongs to a new generation of presses with high
standards of automation and print quality. Other Heidelberg
products nominated included the Nexscan (scanner), Primesetter
(filmsetter), Ecocool (dryer) and Mainstream (newspaper press).
The Industry Forum Design Hanover (iF) runs an international
competition each year. The best products with the highest level of
design quality are chosen according to design criteria by an
independent international panel of judges in two rounds of
selection. This year, 700 participants from 30 countries entered
the competition with 1,320 products.
"A world leading company such as Heidelberg has to set
particularly high standards for its product design," states Dr.
Klaus Spiegel, Technology Director at Heidelberger Druckmaschinen
AG.
Heidelberg developed a new "product design language" for
drupa 2000, which encapsulates a wide range of elements in a matrix
- product architecture, stylistic and operating elements, color,
product finish and image. There are two main objectives behind
Heidelberg's new product design - success in the marketplace and
the preservation of continuity in spite of modernization, thereby
enhancing the Heidelberg image. The design elements which have been
developed deliver a high standard of aesthetics and functionality,
enhance product recognition and represent Heidelberg's brand values
- proximity to the customer, confidence and strength.
