The French newspaper publishing group Dépêche du Midi
(DDM, 152 million Euro sales) has announced its intention to
purchase two Mainstream newspaper web presses from Heidelberger
Druckmaschinen AG. The two presses are to be installed in Toulouse
in the south of France in 2003. They will be manufactured at
Heidelberg's Montataire site near Paris.
The purchase of the two Mainstream presses is part of an
ambitious project on the part of the DDM Group to position itself
as the leading print company in the south of France. The two new
newspaper presses are to replace the three Heidelberg Harris web
offset presses that the company has been using since the end of the
1970s.
"Heidelberg has established itself as a provider of
innovative solutions for the publishing industry," said
Bernhard Schreier, Chairman of Heidelberg's Management Board.
"The sale of the two systems has increased the number of
newspaper presses of this type sold worldwide since drupa 2000 to
14 machines with 473 printing units in total."
The configurations of the two Mainstream presses for
Dépêche du Midi to be installed at the end of 2002 are
identical and each has four printing towers with 32 printing units.
Commissioning of the presses is planned for summer 2003.
