As the largest individual exhibitor at North America's most important print trade fair, Print in Chicago, Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) will today launch sales of the NexPress 2100, the first digital color press. "Global sales of digitally produced color printing will increase by a factor of ten over the next seven years, and with the NexPress, we give our customers the opportunity to join the digital revolution", says the Chairman of Heidelberg's Management Board, Bernhard Schreier.
With the NexPress 2100, Heidelberg is breaking into a market segment where the company has not previously had a presence, and is doing so with a press whose performance leaves the competition in the shade. "With the NexPress 2100, Heidelberg is leading the way into the future of digital printing. The increasing popularity of on-demand products and one-to-one marketing activities will make this press a bestseller, and put Heidelberg among the world's top three digital print specialists," states Bernhard Schreier.
The NexPress will initially be sold in the USA, Germany, the UK, France and the Benelux countries. Over the coming year there are plans to supply the NexPress to other countries, too. The NexPress standard configuration is priced at around USD 350,000, and will be produced at Heidelberg's Kiel site.
In the space of just four years, the "NexPress" joint venture, in which Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG and Eastman Kodak have equal shares, has succeeded in developing a completely new four-color digital press. The NexPress is Heidelberg's solution for new print services that support up to 100 percent variable data. Particular requirements on print jobs, such as fast job turnaround, short-run color jobs and printing of variable data for personalized print products can now be satisfied quickly and with ease.
