Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) enjoyed tremendous
successes at China Print, which was held from May 23 - 28 in
Beijing. More than 4,500 orders worth a total of 13.5 million Euro
(15.5 million US-Dollars) were received. China Print fair is the
largest and most influential trade fair for printing technologies
in China, and is held every four years. Heidelberg was the only
exhibitor to have an entire hall to itself. The world market leader
showcased its solutions for prepress, digital printing, commercial
and industrial solutions, sheetfed offset and packaging/labeling
solutions. The Speedmaster presses were particularly popular, with
a total of eleven Speedmaster CD 74 printing units and 28
Speedmaster CD 102 printing units being sold. 53 Printmaster GTO
printing units were also ordered. In addition to these impressive
results, two Quickmaster DI 46-4 digital offset presses are to go
into production in Chinese print shops in the very near future.
China is Asia's largest growth market, and Heidelberg
predicts an annual growth in double figures. In terms of sales,
China is already Heidelberg's fifth-largest market, behind the
USA, Germany, the UK and Japan. There is a great need for print
media and packaging - the annual per capita spending in China on
printed goods is just three Dollars, compared to Germany, where the
average expenditure is 300 Dollars and Japan, where this figure is
600 Dollars. In the next five years, China is set to become
Heidelberg's third-largest market, after the USA and Germany.
Of key importance is the build-up of expertise among
customers. This is where the Print Media Academy in Shenzhen comes
in, offering a comprehensive range of training courses. Last year,
the Academy welcomed 2000 visitors and training course
participants. Around 30 percent of Heidelberg's customers
currently avail themselves of the range of courses on offer, and
this trend is rising.
Heidelberg has been established in China for more than forty
years. Since 1998, the company has operated direct sales in the
Asia-Pacific region, and this includes China. Around 500 staff
offer local support to around 9,000 customers and prospective
buyers. The Service and Support section is set to be augmented
through the addition of more than 100 extra staff in the near
future.
The company's headquarters in China is situated in
Beijing. Four further key centers - Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hong Kong
and Shenzhen - boost Heidelberg's sales and service operations
in the region.
