Different places
Through the German department at my school I found an internship at Heidelberger Druckmaschinen. In the R&D department in Heidelberg I worked as the programmer in a two person team, which conceptualized and developed a software tool to compute mechanical vibrations within printing presses. Calculations which used to take several days to work out can be set-up through the program in a matter of minutes and run in typically less than an hour.

Different sizes
My next stop was Fort Worth, Texas. Along with a number of smaller projects I worked on a capital investment project for new machining centers. After surviving the famous heat of the Texas summer, it was time to go back to Germany.

A different experience
In Amstetten I worked on a project to coordinate the optimization of a measurement process for critical features in the side frames of the printing presses. The intriguing aspect of this job was that the existing process involved many departments.

A different view
Now I sit at my desk in Wiesloch. My activities so far include responsibility for reports on scrap and rework within my department and being a part of teams working on capital investment projects. I'm also part of another team which is working to standardize the manufacturing capability requirement guidelines within the manufacturing department. After my training I accepted a permanent job as a project engineer here in Wiesloch. My time with Heidelberg has brought me many perspectives on various quantities of scale for different kinds of work, how it can be done, and the people who do it.
