This is the only offset printing pro- cess that totally eliminates IPA emis- sions. For some printing companies operating in countries with strict environmental legislation, such as Scandinavia, Switzerland and Japan, waterless offset is the best choice.
In environmental terms, it offers a number of benefits. Because no water or alcohol is used, there are no dampening solution emissions. At the same time, printed inks are absorbed more quickly meaning that less powdering is required.
In waterless offset, print shops work with silicone-coated plates and special waterless inks. Because the cooling effect of alcohol evaporation is missing, the inking system has to be refrigerated. Heidelberg has designed nearly all Speedmaster models to permit the installation of inking system temperature control, which is already included as a standard feature in Speedmaster SM 74 DI, Quickmaster DI 46, and the M-600 SRW web offset presses.
Heidelberg has been setting standards in waterless technology for quite some time: over a thousand Quickmaster DI 46 presses, all of which dispense with water, are already installed around the world. The M-600 SRW is the first 16-page web offset press that has been specially industrially designed for waterless printing. Print shops can also purchase special Saphira Dry printing inks for waterless offset directly from Heidelberg.
