The Print Media Center (PMC) is one of several Heidelberg demonstration centers that offer clients in all major regions of the world the opportunity to "test drive" new print solutions. The headquarters in Heidelberg - where together with the factory in Wiesloch around 3,800 square meters are reserved for customer visits - features the largest demonstration center in the industry. Almost the entire portfolio of Heidelberg products and solutions is on hand. Last year some 1,300 customer groups from the print media industry took advantage of the PMC's offerings.
In the PMC, the entire production workflow is presented, which means that virtually all business models for a sheetfed offset print shop now on the market are on display. This variety requires a great deal of flexibility and expertise on the part of the PMC staff.
The complexity of today's print production is reflected in the requirements of many of the demonstrations, and in the rising expectations for quality and quantity for the jobs to be completed on any given visitor day. The demand for demonstrations ranges from individual product exhibitions to complete solutions consisting of hardware and software, from prepress to five and six-color machines to long perfecting presses to large-format printers, each with add-on equipment, not to mention the diverse postpress product offerings.
Integration is a particular interest point for many of the exhibitions. When buying new print machines visitors want to see how printers can be incorporated into an overall integration concept and what advantages can be achieved in terms of productivity and efficiency.
Orientation and Consulting
A visit to the PMC can provide orientation when it comes to print applications especially if a print media firm would like to begin utilizing new print processes. The PMC defines itself as a provider of both solutions and products, in order, for example, to help answer questions about new screening methods or print materials for specialization in a particular market. Questions about standardization and offset process standards are also on the rise.
