Louisiana Printer Increases Production, Improves Quality with Speedmaster SM 52, Prosetter 52, Prinect Software

KENNESAW, Ga., - TriStar Graphics Group, a mid-size general commercial printer with plants in Monroe and Lafayette, La., announced today that it has installed a four-color Speedmaster SM 52 sheetfed press to expand capabilities and keep pace with the latest technology trends. The shop also has added a Prosetter 52 and the Prinect Printready system with MetaDimension, making the jump from film processing to a computer-to-plate system.

The new Heidelberg equipment replaces a five-color Printmaster GTO press and a Quasar imagesetter with Delta RIP. The new SM 52 is equipped with perfector, coater, prepress interface, Vario dampening system and Prinect axis control, which is a closed loop color management system. TriStar Graphics Group's Bob Devinney reports that production has increased dramatically since the installation approximately three months ago.

"The new Speedmaster SM 52 has met our expectations in terms of productivity," Devinney said. "We were running an average of three jobs per day on our older press. The new press allows us to run seven to nine jobs in one day while offering our customers more value-added services such as in-line coating and perfecting on small-format work."

The Speedmaster SM 52 is designed to increase the speed, efficiency and productivity of each job. The press offers the greatest versatility in its class, including unique press configurations with up to eight printing units, inline coating and specialized finishing units. Equipped with the Alcolor speed-compensated continuous dampening system, the SM 52 delivers high quality results with a minimal amount of waste. The system's optional Vario function removes dirt particles during the production run and prevents the buildup of hickeys. The efficiency of the production process is enhanced further by Prinect Axis Control, which monitors color quality directly at the press console and can be used with all Speedmaster models.

Although TriStar Graphics still is in the process of transitioning from film processing to CtP, Devinney reports that the new Prosetter 52 already has decreased makeready time and improved the quality of the printed product. Designed to upgrade easily from semi-automatic to fully automatic plate loading for growing businesses, the Prosetter 52 can produce up to 20 plates per hour at 2,540 dpi.

"We wanted a modern system that would compliment our new press and take our work to the next level," Devinney said. "The new equipment has decreased our turn-around time and enabled us to deliver a cleaner product. With the SM 52 and the new computer-to-plate system in place, we are poised for continued growth and success in the future."

With 60 employees in two locations, the shop uses the new equipment to produce projects ranging from brochures to labels to booklets. TriStar Graphics Group is a privately-owned general commercial printer that provides high-quality color printing, finishing and graphic design services to a local and regional client base. The company is jointly owned by Bob Devinney, Michael Guidry, Larry Johnson and Ken Pettit. Since its inception in 1988, the shop has housed Heidelberg equipment in its prepress department and press room.

"We chose to buy our new equipment from Heidelberg because we have always received superior service, and that's no small feat considering our remote location," Devinney said. "Even though we are situated in the middle of the Louisiana cotton fields, Heidelberg fulfills our service needs quickly and efficiently."
