THE BIGGEST SKILLS AND CAREERS EVENT IN THE UK FEATURING COMPETITIONS IN 53 CAREERS
The Skills Show is a unique annual celebration that offers exciting opportunities in further education, skills and Apprenticeships, with a view to inspiring the fashion designers, web developers and engineers of tomorrow.
The Skills Show will play host to a range of skills activities, all under one roof. Visitors will be inspired by skilss in action as the best of the nations's young talent perform at the WorldSkills UK Competitions; they'll be given the opportunity to have a go at new skills, get up to the minute careers advice, and access Apprenticeship and real job opportunities from employers, to help them make that next important step!
There has never been a more important time for young people to get help and advice about their future. We know that choosing a career is never straightforward, but The Skill Show can offer you and your students a unique opportunity to be inspired and have a go at a range of skills, then get informed.
This year the event will take place at the NEC in Birmingham from 15 to 17 November 2012 and will incorporate skill competitions, interactive Have a Go activities, spotlight sessions, showcases, conference and seminar programme and exhibition.

The Offset Litho competition is based on the work role of a print technician.
What competencies do I need?
A print technician needs competencies like knowledge of offset printing materials (paper, ink, etc.), operating with and measuring of quality control devices, implementing and controlling safety and environmental regulations.
Have a go.
Prepare, operate and adjust 5 colour sheetfed Heidelberg offset press with remote control console (semi-)automatic plate mounting:

Apply for the skills competition by 14 September 2012. The heats will take place in Brentford from 10 to 12 October 2012.

Have a go.
Prepare, operate and adjust 5 colour sheetfed Heidelberg offset press with remote control console (semi-)automatic plate mounting:
- Produce printed sheets in required quality and quantity.
- Have knowledge of and use a programmable paper guillotine.
- Mix ink and measure colours with spectrophotometer and find LAB values and Delta-E values.
- Prepare and set up small offset press.
- Have problem solving skills.
