Six of the Best for Potts
29.10.2004
Pottsprinters has ordered a second Speedmaster CD 74-6L six months
after installing its first. The new press will be delivered in
August 2005 and will continue the extensive investment programme,
which also puts in place full JDF networking in the press hall.
With Potts' excellent reputation for quality and speed to
market, a further investment has been made in the finishing
department, with two new POLAR 115 guillotines and a new TH66
folding machine to complement the existing technology.
In the last four years the North Shields company has
increased turnover from £1.25 million to £6 million and
is currently producing 5,000 plates a month and more than 12,000
jobs a year, making Potts the fastest growing printer in the North
East and seventh fastest in the UK in a recent poll.
The first six-colour Speedmaster CD 74 with anilox coating
was installed last March and has made a great impression. The
company is also using the Prinect Image Control spectrophotometry
installed alongside the Speedmaster CD 74. This equipment provides
quality monitoring and a tangible proof of the high standards that
are important to Potts' many and varied clients.
Potts currently has over 650 clients, many in the healthcare,
agency and packaging sectors. No single customer accounts for more
than five percent of turnover giving it a secure financial base.
Shaun Johnson, Production Director, says: "We have
ordered a second Speedmaster CD 74-6L as we now know it really can
run at 15,000 sph and the first has added 30 percent to our
turnover in its first year. The flexibility of the stock it can
run, together with the speed of the press and faster make ready
times allows us to handle all types of commercial and packaging
print."
Already using a Prinect Prepress Interface for closed loop
colour, Potts is keen to extend its JDF links and to connect its
Tharstern MIS system with production operations. The future
implementation of these links will complement the e-business
packages offered to clients through Potts Online, being launched
this autumn.
The company has installed two Agfa Palladio CtP systems at
its 24-hour/7-day production facility. It can also offer a full
range of finishing, including perfect binding, booklet making and
die cutting. Potts believes it can only meet today's stringent
deadlines by having total in-house control.
"We want to be known as one of the best quality printers
in the UK based in the North East," says Shaun Currie,
Managing Director. "We can take on a greater volume and range
of work with this press. This additional CD will have a plinth so
that we can run higher pile feed and delivery to take real
advantage of the speed of throughput. CD 74 technology has now
truly opened new doors."
