Pioneering Printer Beefs up Printing and Cutting Capacity

14.09.2004

A B3 printer with a record of firsts is to add a Speedmaster SM 52-4H four-colour with high pile delivery to run alongside its Speedmaster
SM 52-6+D, the six-colour with in-line die cutting.

This beefs up the company's printing capacity and will relieve pressure on the six-colour so that it can extend its die-cutting work. A two-colour Speedmaster SM 52-2 which has been primarily used for spot colour work will go out. The new press will run 50-50 process and spots. It is fitted with a technotrans ink temperature control system for optimum quality.

With the new Speedmaster the company will also take delivery of the new POLAR 78XS with two stacklifts and a jogger.

Managing Director Paul Coulson says: "The six-colour has been a great success but we could handle more die-cutting if some or our process work, which accounts for 85 percent of throughput, could be transferred to the new press. The die-cutting is superb now that we have adopted the transfer plates that were developed for the launch of its eight-colour SM 52. It eliminates any marking risk. The new four-colour bolsters our flexibility."
A new sales rep with strong print experience will join the company in January and this is expected to increase the range of customers and work handled.

In July, Lee Coulson, son of Paul Coulson, will also join the business from school and he will have a say in the direction and range of equipment adopted in future. For the past three years he has worked weekends and holidays in the finishing area, even operating what was the UK's first Eurobind 500 as well as Stahlfolders and Stitchmaster ST 100 saddle-stitcher.

In Print is proactive in taking on new equipment and finding ways of becoming an innovator and value added small format supplier. In addition to print it offers design, calendars and small scale carton services and next year will launch its first greetings card publishing range featuring country scenes.
