Digital print providers are saving significant time in their
prepress operations, employing ImageSmart Document Mastering 2.0
software from Heidelberg.
The software is a complete workflow package that makes the
Digimaster 9110 Network Imaging System and the NexPress 2100
digital production color press more profitable for their customers.
It offers several benefits, including saving time in setting up
jobs and reducing waste from job set-up errors.
ImageSmart software features the SmartBoard software plug-in,
which enables a range of new functions, provides full support of
job tickets, and enables users to easily change paper color or
sizes within a document and specify finishing options.
Print businesses are quickly reaping the benefits of the
software and the plug-in, including Anthony J. Jannetti, Inc. of
Pitman, New Jersey and Print On Demand, a quick-print business in
Toronto.
Jannetti is an association management, marketing, and
publishing company serving the health-care industry and specialty
nursing associations. Its business includes producing journals,
manuals, textbooks and other publications, and it averages 600,000
impressions per month.
According to Todd Lockhart, the company's director of
electronic publishing services, ImageSmart 2.0 software is helping
Jannetti greatly reduce its digital prepress time. "With ImageSmart
software, we have reduced our digital prepress time by about 50
percent per job," he said. "Plus, we have the flexibility to
re-purpose jobs the way we need to. That all files are PDF and can
be re-purposed easily for the Web are tremendous workflow
advantages for us."
Jannetti's digital print production coordinator, Conni
Bernosky, enjoys the software's ability to manipulate jobs, scan
files, remove footers, add page numbers, overlays - and the
automatic conversion of TIFF files to PDF. "Production is a lot
smoother with page features, and the software enables us to spend
much less time on individual files," she said.
Print On Demand
Fast turnaround is key to Print On Demand's business of
black-and-white printing, producing binders, collating and color
copying. The shop, which was created in September 2001, has quickly
come to rely on Heidelberg equipment, as it now employs two
Digimaster 9110 print systems, the Heidelberg Inserter, a booklet
maker and two ImageSmart Document Mastering workstations.
Mary Gratos, a graphic designer at Print On Demand, has been
using the software for a few months - mostly to produce large,
three-ring binders with dozens of tabs.
"ImageSmart software is straightforward, the interface looks
nice and it is easy to use," Gratos said. "One big advantage we're
seeing with ImageSmart and SmartBoard is that the settings are
saved along with a document. This saves a huge amount of time on
reprints - as much as half the time - because I can have a job
ready to go, and our second shift can produce it exactly as we left
it, without having to scramble to find the hard-copy job."
ImageSmart Document Mastering 2.0 is part of Heidelberg's
ImageSmart Workflow Suite, a product portfolio built on a scalable,
truly open architecture and designed to improve the digital
printing workflow. ImageSmart software helps printers maximize
their capabilities and provides powerful job submission and
document mastering functions. ImageSmart Document Mastering 2.0
utilizes the industry-standard Adobe Acrobat 5.0 software.
