Heidelberg Digital L.L.C. officials today provided a snap-shot
of a year in which its Digimaster print system catapulted from a
new entry in digital, black-and-white on-demand printing, to a
flagship product achieving more than one third of its long-term
market share goal.
The Digimaster 9110 Network Imaging System has made a
dramatic impact on the industry and is meeting the needs of
customers worldwide. It has performed flawlessly for customers and
during rigorous demonstrations around the world. The Digimaster
system is employed in high-volume printers sold by Canon/Ikon,
Danka, Heidelberg and IBM.
Heidelberg Digital has shipped 1,700 units worldwide, and
expects to ship its 2000th early in 2001. Major customers include
Kinko's and Sir Speedy, the largest print-for-pay providers in the
world. The unit placements to date result in the division achieving
more than one third of its five-year market share goal - 30 percent
of the digital high-volume marketplace (at least 90 images per
minute) by 2005.
"At first, people questioned whether Heidelberg could compete
with Xerox. Now many in the industry are wondering if Xerox is a
viable alternative to us," said Heidelberg Digital CEO Wolfgang
Pfizenmaier. "In a short time, we've shown the industry and the
world that customers now have an alternative worth the investment,
which delivers around-the-clock uptime and image quality that is
second to none."
The sales success of the Digimaster has played a significant
role in Heidelberg Digital's financial success to date.
Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) recently released its
financial report for the first six months of the 2000-2001 fiscal
year. The report showed that in the Heidelberg Digital division,
there was significant growth in both orders received (+ 43.5
percent) and sales (+ 31 percent).
Digimaster systems around the world
Printing customers around the world are profiting from
the Digimaster system. Earlier this year, the digital printer was
placed in print shops in the U.S., Canada, central Europe, Iceland
and South Africa.
Since then, placements have expanded internationally through
all of central Europe and into such countries as Mexico, Saudi
Arabia, Australia, Iceland and South Africa. In September, the
product also made a splash before cus-tomers at the IMF 2000 World
Bank Conference in Prague, Czech Republic, at which the four
Heidelberg Digimaster 9110 Network Imaging Systems produced
millions of pages of conference materials non-stop throughout the
event.
Heidelberg Digital is committed to greatly expanding its
global presence and meeting the needs of even more customers around
the world. In November, the division announced plans to enter the
eastern European market by mak ing Digimaster available to
customers in Russia - citing the region as a market with enormous
growth potential.
Wherever the Digimaster is placed, its performance has been
pleasing customers. "The most important thing for us has been the
productivity," says Andrew Murdoch of Prontaprint in the U.K.,
"followed by the uptime on the machine, the fact that it
doesn't jam when you're feeding paper on it, the fact that it just
keeps running all day."
