Heidelberg sets standards in the production of inmold labels
with the Speedmaster XL 106-D for rotary die cutting. These kind of
label is used for packaging e.g. ice-cream/dessert/margarine/
yogurt tubs, salad bowls, lids and paint buckets. The Speedmaster
XL 106-D is based on the new Speedmaster XL 106 technology, which
enables highest productivity for die cutting inmould labels. The
Speedmaster XL 106-D works on the principle of the rotary die
cutter, which offers a number of advantages over the flatbed and
punch die-cutters which are usually used in the production for
inmold labels.
The Speedmaster XL 106-D is ready for production following 15
minutes of make-ready. With the accuracy of the cylinders and the
die-cutting form no separate underlay is required. The Speedmaster
XL 106-D can process foils between 0.03 mm (0.0012 in) and 0.3 mm
(0.012 in) thickness. Increased productivity using a sheet size of
740 mm x 1,050 mm (29.13 in × 41.34 in) is major advantage of
punch die-cutting which is limited to maximum 400 mm (15.75 in)
label size. For production runs up to 500,000 sheets the cost of
tooling is reduced by 50 percent compared to traditional flat bed
die-cutting. Using the innovative components from Speedmaster XL
106 perfecting technology ensures precise align delivery piles
without a single blank being detached from a sheet.
