Judges praise user-friendly operation and user interface design
An international panel of expert judges from the Design
Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen (North Rhine-Westphalia Design Center)
has awarded Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) the
"red dot" for its Prinect workflow in the "red dot
design award: communication design 2004" competition.
"The 'Prinect' workflow system scooped the red
dot seal of quality for exceptional design in the "Digital
Media" category of our red dot award: communication design
competition. The judges were full of praise for the workflow
system, which optimizes work processes in printshops, and
particularly stressed its clear structure and design and excellent
navigation," says Prof. Peter Zec, Head of the North
Rhine-Westphalia Design Center and chairman of the judging panel,
explaining the judges' decision.
"Receiving the red dot award for Prinect shows that
Heidelberg has a workflow system in its portfolio which, thanks to
its outstanding usability, has also made it easy for small to
mid-sized print shops to start leveraging process integration. The
design of the Prinect system enables the workflow applications to
be operated ergonomically by keyboard and mouse, but also via a
touchscreen display on the machines. End-to-end navigation at all
the stations integrated in the workflow is easily learnt. The
resulting reliability has a positive effect on customer
productivity," says Jörg Bauer, Vice President Product
Management Prinect.
The panel of judges, made up of nine international design
experts, this year faced a flood of 2,936 entries from 27
countries. The winners were honored at an awards ceremony on
December 3, 2004 in the Essen Philharmonic Concert Hall and at the
opening of the special exhibition in the red dot design museum.
The award-winning works are displayed in the "Design
Innovations 2004: red dot award: communication design" special
exhibition until January 9, 2005 in the red dot design museum
located in the "Kesselhaus" of the former "Zeche
Zollverein" mining complex in Essen.
The "International Yearbook Communication Design
2004/2005", published by avedition to accompany the
competition, will appear shortly before the awards ceremony.
Prinect - Integrated JDF-based workflow system from
Heidelberg
Prinect encompasses Heidelberg's complete offering for
comprehensive workflow management in print shops. Prinect enables
the creation of what is essentially an open network of workflow
components that are able to communicate with each other based on
JDF. Modular Prinect components enable production planning and
control, integrate business management processes with technical
workflows and thereby ensure an end-to-end flow of data and work
processes. Prinect records and optimizes print-specific work
processes from prepress to production and finishing. It also
supports constant monitoring of the entire process, thus providing
a precise stock of data for commercial planning and control.
In practice, we can identify three main applications for
Prinect: Management, production and color solutions. These
applications, combined with specially coordinated implementation
services, provide the driving force for boosting print shops'
productivity and quality as well as cutting costs.
