Improved Dampening Quality with Heidelberg CombiStar

Improved Dampening Quality with Heidelberg CombiStar
Heidelberg's CombiStar dampening system allows for a stable ink/dampening balance to ensure the best possible printing result.

Achieving the best possible print quality starts with the interaction between inking and dampening systems. A stable ink-dampening balance is vital to ensuring print quality. Generally speaking, the more soiled the dampening solution, the harder it becomes to maintain the required ink-dampening balance.

CombiStar's dampening systems are fitted with the 'SoftFlow' dampening filter, which removes impurities and ensures that dirt particles can no longer enter the dampening circulation tank. This reduces waste and cost while maximising press uptime.

'Lithopure' - an optional self-enclosed filtration system - can be placed directly into the dampening circulation tank. Lithopure runs independently of, and in addition to any other filters in the dampening system. It is a simple, low cost filtration solution that can double dampening solution life, increase maintenance intervals and boost press productivity.

Accurate metering of alcohol into dampening solutions can also ensure consistent dampening quality. Stable alcohol monitoring within the CombiStar dampening system is achieved with our 'Alcosmart' measuring device. The accuracy of Alcosmart is a reliable +/- 0.5% of alcohol at a measuring range of 0%-15% - satisfying even the most demanding requirements in the printing industry.

The variability of water quality, or hardness, can affect dampening efficiency. Water found in nature is not clean and its quality can vary dramatically depending on its location, the time of year and, even the time of day. In order to achieve premium quality print results, it is important to ensure that water has the correct degree of hardness/quality.

Reverse Osmosis (RO) can be employed within dampening systems to ensure required water quality. The RO process 'cleans' the water (by straining it through a molecular sieve) and then reconditions it with salts before it is added to the dampening process. The 'alpha.r' range of RO systems offered by 'technotrans' have been specifically adapted to the requirements of offset printing and can easily be incorporated into the CombiStar dampening system.

Perfect Print output - even during large print runs - requires dampening solution stability, cleanliness and consistency. Heidelberg's CombiStar dampening system supports a stable ink/dampening balance required to ensure a quality printing result.
