ISO Standard Certification – A New Service
Heidelberg Australia & New Zealand (HAN) is now able to provide
ISO 12647-2 and ISO 12647-7 certification for its customers.

"Printing to the ISO standard is now commonplace in Europe. In fact many multi-national corporations demand their print producers are ISO certified. This is particularly relevant for international companies that use local printers yet expect standardisation across their print materials."

Heidelberg has entered into an arrangement with ISO body FOGRA to provide certification for printers around the world. In this region HAN will manage the whole process for customers with the final certification made by Heidelberg's headquarters in Germany.
"This service is an extension of our Print Colour Management (PCM) which we have provided for some years now. We recommend customers work to achieve both ISO standards - ISO 12647-2 is for the press and ISO 12647-7 for proofing. Although the Standard per se does not require a press-proof-match, we will ensure this is achieved." Says Lange.
HAN's PCM service begins with a consultation to ensure the customer's equipment is in good order. But Soeren says equipment is only part of the equation.
"Critical to achieving the ISO 12647-2 standard is enlisting the commitment of everyone involved in the production process. This is an absolute key to success. Printing to ISO 12647-2 is just the result of a complex PCM process beforehand. For most companies this process may take weeks, or in some cases, months."
"A company needs to embrace colour management, not just at a production level, but also by management. Everyone needs to understand how and why attaining the Standard will benefit the company."
Soeren says the long term results of certification are definitely worth the effort. "If you are printing to the Standard then make readies are faster, waste is reduced and you can be confident that everything you produce is accurate. In a highly competitive market this certification can become a significant market differentiator."
